Low-Key Weekending

Happy weekend friends! I’m enjoying a rare weekend in Charlotte while Finn is with his dad and it’s been nice and low-key…and full of yoga! I took my friend Rian’s class at 5:30p on Friday at Charlotte Yoga and it was everything I needed it to be and so much more. It was hot, hard, tons of flow and I sweated my life away in the best way. I also got to practice next to someone I haven’t seen in years so that was fun. I felt so happily wrung out at the end.

I came home and showered, made myself dinner and watched a Netflix movie on the couch. I watched The Last Letter from Your Lover and it was neither good nor bad. Just a solid mediocre gets the job done on a Friday night kind of movie.

Matthews community farmers market

My main goal for Saturday morning was making it to the Matthews Community Farmers Market. I even set an alarm so I could get there early to snag the best stuff. Here’s what came home with me: fresh figs, peaches, cantaloupe, eggs, cherry tomatoes, slicing tomatoes, okra, eggplant, cucumbers, garlic and a loaf of rustic oat bread that tastes very sourdough-y from Verdant Bread.

I quickly unloaded my farmers market goods when I got home and then headed out to teach a double header. I started with a hot power yoga class at Vibes at 10:45a and then another at Charlotte Yoga at 12:30p. I came home and ate two tomato sandwiches and a handful of figs.

This afternoon has consisted of computer work, laundry and dog walking.

triad golden retriever rescue

One the subject of dogs…Thursday was Benji’s second birthday!!!

I’ll share what I wrote on Instagram about Benji:

Wishing our Benji boy a happy second birthday! This smart, affectionate, sensitive pup has brought so much joy into our lives, and I hope we’ve paid it back to him because he deserves unconditional love.

It wasn’t the easiest year. Benji came to us as a seven month old rescue in March 2020. He has always struggled with anxiety but had a very hard time with our move to a new house last August. There were some really tough moments but I’m grateful that we stayed the course and didn’t give up on this sweet boy.

I share this because I am a dog lover and I think dogs are the best! That being said, being a dog owner is hard and has a lot of ups and downs. My dogs do things on the regular where I am like…whhhyyyyy…but at the end of the day, I can’t imagine life or my house without a dog in it.

Benji really struggled for several months after our move into the new house last August. There were a lot of phone calls and texts to his foster mom, the rescue and his trainer. I felt so grateful to have a village of support behind me to help Benji feel safe, secure and loved. Seriously, the team at Triad Golden Retriever Rescue goes above and beyond to support their dogs and their adopted families.

Just like I share the ups and downs of life, I think it’s important to talk about the ups and downs of being a dog owner. Zoey and Benji both push me to the edges of my patience sometimes but they also bring so much joy and so many smiles into my life. And Finn adores them too!

Back to the present moment…I just got home from walking the dogs and after I push publish on this post I am going to make some dinner and probably go back to Manifest on Netflix.

My Sunday morning will consist of meeting someone at my rental house to look at a drainage issue in the backyard (yay) and then subbing another yoga class at Charlotte Yoga before I pick up Finn around noon. I’m hoping the weather is nice for a Sunday afternoon at the pool! I snapped this picture of him on Friday morning. He’s the cutest.

QUESTIONS

Did you go to the farmers market this weekend? What did you get?

Do you like figs? Favorite ways to use them?

Have you streamed any good movies lately on Netflix, Amazon, etc.? Please share recommendations! It’s always SO hard to find a good one in the moment.

I cannot believe it’s been nearly a month since I completed Moab Run The Rocks! TransRockies truly excels when it comes to planning and [...]

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

This potato and broccoli cheddar soup is a warm hug in a bowl. It’s a mash up of potato soup meets broccoli cheddar soup, and makes for a creamy, hearty and cheesy bowl that has just enough broccoli in it to make you feel like you’re getting your veggies in for a complete meal. POTATO [...]
