What a weird weekend. On Friday I was running in a tank top and crops and less than 24 hours later…
It was 30 degrees and unexpectedly snowing hard along with thunder…which has been coined “thundersnow.” I think we got like 2 inches in a matter of hours. It was so bizarre…snow is such a huge deal here and all of the reports weren’t really even calling for anything other than some flurries. We get all worked up when there is a chance of snow and it never ends up happening but then when we’re not expecting it we get our version of “dumped on.” (Go ahead and laugh all of your from snow country!)
I loved the snow! The roads stayed really manageable and it looked so pretty. So while the snow was a fun twist on the weekend, everything else was pretty much business as usual.
Breakfast on Saturday morning before taking and teaching yoga was toast with peanut butter, honey and banana along with citrus and espresso.
Lunch after yoga was a really awesome salad with mixed greens, chicken, strawberries, goat cheese, dried cranberries, candied pecans and honey dijon balsamic. Yuuuummm. Pretty much the salad of my dreams.
I hunkered down after the snow started. (Well, after I finished my errands to Total Wine and Nordstrom Rack, priorities clearly. Bonus, I had Nordstrom Rack all to myself!) I roasted acorn squash and brussels sprouts and made a turkey meatloaf.
Snow + healthy comfort food + Homeland made for a fabulous Saturday night.
My Sunday was spent teaching yoga, taking yoga (see a cycle that repeats frequently?) along with training a client and kind of catching up on life in general.
Lunch was a turkey sandwich with feta yogurt dressing, avocado, spinach and colby jack with apple slices and lentil soup. I got turkey from the deli counter at the grocery today and was really disappointed in it. I tried the Boar’s Head Natural turkey for the first time and it was really dry and overcooked. It’s probably the worst deli turkey I’ve ever had and I think I’ll return it tomorrow. I don’t want to eat the remaining half pound that I have in the fridge. I typically like the Boar’s Head brand so I guess I’ll go back to their normal products.
My favorite thing about yoga is that I get to spend 60 or 90 glorious minutes on my mat forgetting about whatever is going on in my life. I leave my cell phone turned off in my purse and it’s like nothing else matters while I am practicing. That said, my practice is not always easy, effortless or pretty but I have learned to appreciate whatever my body is giving me on that day. I truly think it’s a gift that yoga has allowed me to become so in tune to how I am feeling physically and emotionally on such a regular basis. Today was a tough practice. My back was bothering me and I was feeling generally unsettled and anxious but I was still incredibly grateful to be practicing. My teacher even picked up on me not being myself and stopped me in class to ask if I was okay. Instead of letting those “bad” practices get me down, I’ve learned that any time spent on my mat is a positive and not to judge myself too harshly for having an off day.
Dinner after yoga was salmon broiled in a cast iron skillet with Dizzy Pig’s Tsunami Spin with baby bok choy cooked with Trader Joe’s Island Soyaki sauce and brown rice.
And that’s the weekend for ya. Gearing up for a busy week ahead that will end with VACATION! Only 5 days away and I am so ready!
