We had such a great weekend. I apologize that I’m just getting to the recap late on a Monday evening but today was spent teaching yoga, taking yoga, grocery shopping, meal prepping and working on Y2 stuff/studio management team meeting. I’m just sitting down to type this before I got teach my last class for the day at 7:15p.

11-7girlsvote

I subbed out my Friday afternoon class because a) I needed a break, b) I wanted to early vote and c) I had an event later that evening. I took the girls to go vote with me. They love car rides and I needed the support. 😉 I’m glad the weather has cooled off enough to have them in the car again when I’m out running errands.

Dorie and I had tickets to see Glennon Doyle Melton speak on Friday evening. We met for a glass of wine before and then headed to the event venue where we joined about 900 other women who were there to see Glennon. I’ve read both of her books this year, Carry On Warrior and Love Warrior. I was very interested to see her live.

She was lovely. Funnier than I expected. A bit theatrical at times. But also really real and relatable. About halfway through the event she shared that she’s in a new relationship and it’s with a woman so that was jaw-dropping info for many in the crowd. I’m guessing the move to share the coming out news in Charlotte had a lot to do with the current HB2 situation we’ve got going on in North Carolina. Regardless, as long as she’s happy, I’m happy for her. Love Warrior was a difficult and heavy read and she has definitely put in the personal work to get to a better place.

When asked about her decision to re-enter her relationship with her husband and put in years of work that would ultimately end in them going their separate ways, she said she felt really grateful for it because it allowed them to truly forgive each other and end on terms where they felt their relationship was complete. I thought that was beautiful.

Anyway, I’m glad we went.

I ate (another) bowl of salsa chicken for dinner when I got home and was in bed by 10:30 because I planned to do my long run Saturday morning.

11-7oatmeal

When Saturday morning rolled around, I couldn’t bring myself to get up and run. I was hoping for 18 miles and in order to get it done in time to teach at 11:15, I needed to be on the road by 7:30. I was tired and it was dark and cold so I laid in bed until about 7:45 and then got up and made oatmeal and had a cozy morning at home. I decided I’d do my long run later that afternoon.

11-7saladnama

I had lunch with Tanner after class at our restaurant. Since I’d had a rice bowl for lunch and dinner on Friday and oatmeal for breakfast Saturday, I figured I’d done my fair share of carb loading. I opted for a salad with chicken for my pre-long run meal because I didn’t want something that would sit heavy in my stomach. It ended up working out perfectly.

11-7skylne

I set off for my run at 4:15 p.m. I talked to my grandmother for the first five miles and it was a great distraction. She said she could barely tell I was running!

11-7tryon

It was a gorgeous afternoon and I ran all over Charlotte! I ran through six different neighborhoods, including Uptown.

11-7panthers

I ran past the baseball stadium and the football stadium.

11-7gu

I stopped at the Y at the halfway point to go to the bathroom, refill my water bottles and eat a gel.

11-7postrun

I finally made it home just after the sunset. I shared this on Instagram but I get SO SO SO cold after I run. I laid under a blanket while Tanner stretched me out. He was really nice to offer because I could barely straighten my leg on my own after 18 miles of running. Also, I can’t say I smelled great!

And about the run…18 miles is just a long run and a long time to be out there. I felt pretty good and nothing hurt. My feet got sore and I was ready to get off them by the end but all things considered, I cannot complain at all.

11-7zoey

Zoey was also a big help and wanted to be involved in my stretching. After my stretch session, I stood in a hot shower for about 20 minutes and finally warmed up.

11-7chips

I ate chips and hummus to hold me over while I got ready for dinner.

11-7oku

We got dressed up and met Tanner’s brother and sister-in-law for late dinner reservations at O-Ku. It’s a new sushi restaurant in Charlotte’s South End neighborhood and quite the hot spot.

11-7sushi

I was more than ready to devour the food. It was delicious and I loved the ambiance in the space. The service was also great.

We came home and got sucked into another episode of Parenthood and didn’t end up going to bed until after 12:30 a.m. It was amazing news when Tanner reminded me that we were getting an extra hour of sleep.

11-7brunch

I made our regular breakfast on Sunday of avocado, sauerkraut and scrambled egg toast with bacon and fruit.

11-7starter

BREAKING NEWS: I am finally making my own sourdough bread. My dad sent the starter home with me last time I was visiting since I was driving and not flying and it’s been sitting in my fridge ever since. I was terrified that I had ruined it but after a few feedings, it was good as new. Stay tuned for results. It’s looking pretty promising. I worked on it all day today and I’ll be baking tomorrow morning.

11-7cupcakes

I also baked mini carrot cake cupcakes to take to a potluck later that evening. I ate so many of these things over the course of the day on Sunday.

I wrapped up my day with teaching yoga, the potluck and hanging out with Tanner on the couch.

What does your post-run recovery look like?

Did you bake anything this weekend?

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

This potato and broccoli cheddar soup is a warm hug in a bowl. It’s a mash up of potato soup meets broccoli cheddar soup, and makes for a creamy, hearty and cheesy bowl that has just enough broccoli in it to make you feel like you’re getting your veggies in for a complete meal. POTATO [...]
