Today I really missed running. I missed it when I was out running errands and saw others out running. I missed it when I was walking the dogs and the humid rain had moved out leaving us with the most beautiful 70 degree afternoon. I even missed long runs when I was driving down a street that I often ran during long runs and is part of almost every half marathon race route here in Charlotte.

Running is so not in the cards for me right now. I was a a little late to get to the Y last night to teach my final strength class before going on maternity leave due to aforementioned rain and traffic. I had five minutes to get from the parking deck and into the gym to teach my class. I thought to myself, “I’m going to have to run!” (I had all of a block or so to travel.)

I took about five of the most awkward running steps ever and immediately stopped because the sharp, shooting pain in my pelvis nearly took my breath away. I thought to myself, “well, I’ll power walk as fast as I can and I might just be a minute or two late but this is NOT happening!” KUDOS to those of you who have shared that you were able to run up until your due date. There is way too much baby head pressure going on for that to happen for me!

But I sure do miss it! Especially now that the weather is so springy and nice. Spring and fall are my favorite running seasons. I’ve really been at peace with not running since I stopped at 28 weeks but I will be very happy to get back to it whenever the time is right for me.

30-MINUTE TREADMILL WORKOUT

Would you believe that I even miss treadmill runs? Not the boring kind but the super sweaty, short, intense interval treadmill runs.

SO…

I made one for you! 🙂 Please run it for me!

For this workout I tried something totally new! I choreographed the whole thing to match a 30-minute playlist. If you haven’t heard, the world-famous DJ Avicii died last week at the age of 28. I’ve always loved his music and it’s always been a go-to for me when it comes to workouts. It’s seriously catchy and motivating. He will certainly be missed.

AVICII TRIBUTE TREADMILL WORKOUT

Here’s the workout!

AVICII TRIBUTE TREADMILL WORKOUT: 30 minutes of sprints, hills and endurance

And here’s the playlist to go with the workout. It’s available on Spotify. Note that you’ll want to start the treadmill and the playlist as close to the same time as possible so that the intervals will match up with the music. Both the playlist and the workout are exactly 30 minutes.

The treadmill workout itself is a blend of all of my favorite things…hill intervals, sprint intervals and tempo pushes. I think you’ll find it super challenging but doable. I’m giving you guidance on the inclines but I’m not giving you speed. I want you to customize the speed to your current fitness level. On a related note, should you find my hill intervals not steep enough for you, feel free to kick it up a notch!

Like I said, this is something totally new for me so let me know how you like the treadmill workout choreographed to music. If it’s something y’all dig, I’ll start sprinkling in more of these.

Report back please! HAPPY SWEATING!

Moab Run The Rocks Race Recap (3 Day Stage Race)

I cannot believe it’s been nearly a month since I completed Moab Run The Rocks!
