Twelve Years

July 3 is a very special day…it’s Sullie’s birthday!

My angel is 12 years old today! I can’t even believe it. It seems like just yesterday I was at the breeder with my ex and we were trying to decide between Sullie or her brother, the only two pups left in the litter.

We were initially on the fence about Sullie because she was SO submissive. Anytime we’d try to interact with her, she would tuck her tail between her legs and scoot. Her brother, on the other hand, was WILD! He was interested in anything but meeting us and was running around like crazy and getting into things. Watching him drag a box fan across the floor helped us make our final decision to bring Sullie home.

And it’s been true love ever since! That submissive pup was long gone after just a few days at home and she ended up giving us a run for our money. She was full of energy and mischief for quite a few years.

dog birthday cake

We celebrated tonight with a doggie cake and two new stuffed toys. While Zoey loves balls, Sullie has always been a big fan of anything soft that squeaks! Even at 12 she still loves to grab a toy and run around squeaking it. 🙂

I post this dog birthday cake recipe every year. It’s so good and simple!

1/2 apple, finely chopped
3 tablespoons nut butter
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon baking powder.

Mix it all together and put in a greased ramekin. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes or until set in the center.

Sullie got the surprise of her life delivered to her this year with baby Finn’s arrival. And just as I anticipated, she’s a great big sister.

I always dreamed that Sullie would be there when I brought my first baby home and I count my blessings every day that my dream came true. She’s so sweet and gentle with Finn and so patient with me as I devote a lot of time to taking care of him.

Dogs are just the best and it’s been so amazing to have Sullie with me for the last 12 years. She has the most pure and calming energy about her and she’s seen me through the best and worst of times with nothing but love and devotion.

Thanking god for my Sullie girl and all of these amazing years we’ve had together!

I hope you all have the happiest of July Fourths.

What’s your favorite thing about being a dog mom?

TransRockies truly excels when it comes to planning and [...]
