Labor Day Weekend With My Little Loves

I have quite the Labor Day weekend recap for you today. I have really been missing my nieces since I wasn’t able to plan a visit for their spring or summer breaks due to the end of pregnancy and newborn life. I was texting with their mom on Thursday morning and asked if they had plans for the long weekend. They didn’t so we organized a last-minute visit. YAY!

FRIDAY

I took off Friday after teaching a lunch class at the Y. I packed a lunch to eat on the way. I love car packed lunches!

Our meeting spot was a little over two hours from Charlotte. I scooped up the girls, fed Finn and then we made our way back to Charlotte.

We picked up a pizza from Hawthorne’s as we arrived into Charlotte.

After dinner everyone got baths (including Finn!) and the girls wanted to read him a book. It was VERY sweet.

We finished the day with ice cream!

SATURDAY

The morning started with cinnamon rolls.

And Finn being entertained by his cousins.

My friend Angie recently moved away from Charlotte but was back in town for her son’s first birthday party. It was SO GOOD to see her!

And the girls were all about going to a birthday party. They loved the Mickey Mouse theme, the bounce house and meeting other kids.

We tried to go swim at the Y after the party but as soon as we got our bathing suits on, the pool closed for thunder. We came home and walked the dogs to the park instead. The girls got to play and the pups got some exercise. It was a win/win.

We did leftover pizza for dinner.

And cupcakes from Gigi’s.

Shrek on the couch was our evening activity.

SUNDAY

Pancakes and bacon for breakfast.

We enjoyed a quiet morning at home before kicking off the day’s planned adventures.

First up, a ride on the light rail!

We rode the train into uptown Charlotte. The girls loved it and it was such an easy way to get uptown!

We had lunch at 7th Street Public Market. I had an acai bowl.

We walked to Discovery Place to spend a few hours there. We visited Discovery Place last summer when they were here and they were so pumped to return.

Our final stop was First Ward Park for a run through the splash pad. I kept the light rail and splash pad a secret and the girls loved the surprises!

I picked up Viva Chicken for dinner and Dorie came over with her family to join us. We had a really cozy and fun evening at home. I made mac and cheese and green beans to accompany the Viva Chicken and Dorie brought a salad and chocolate cake and cupcakes.

MONDAY

We were all sad to say goodbye to the girls this morning.

We soaked in some final cuddles while packing up.

I drove two hours to drop them off and arrived back in Charlotte in time to join some friends for a Labor Day cookout (after stopping at home to let the pups out and feed Finn!).

The food was amazing.

Finn was in a super good mood (happy to be out of the car!) while we were there and passed out at the end.

I had a slice of homemade apple pie with ice cream and salted caramel sauce before heading home.

I am ending the long weekend with a full heart and very good memories of the first meeting of Finn and his cousins. It was such a special and sweet time for all of us!

Tell me about your Labor Day Weekend!

Moab Run The Rocks Race Recap (3 Day Stage Race)

I cannot believe it’s been nearly a month since I completed Moab Run The Rocks! It’s a three-day stage race in Moab, Utah that’s put on by the same race organization, TransRockies Rockies Race Series, that I did my six-day Colorado race with back in August. TransRockies truly excels when it comes to planning and [...]

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

This potato and broccoli cheddar soup is a warm hug in a bowl. It’s a mash up of potato soup meets broccoli cheddar soup, and makes for a creamy, hearty and cheesy bowl that has just enough broccoli in it to make you feel like you’re getting your veggies in for a complete meal. POTATO [...]
