Change of Plans + Here Comes Florence

Well, things in North Carolina are crazy right now. Hurricane Florence is all that anyone is talking about and understandably so. The schools are canceled for the next two days because so many of them are being used as shelters for our coastal neighbors. No one really knows what the impact of the hurricane is going to be here in Charlotte but I think that most can agree that we are going to get a whole lot of rain.

Yesterday I made the difficult decision to back out on my role as Run Lead at Wanderlust 108 in Toronto. I was set to fly out on Friday and return Saturday after the event but given the weekend forecast, I just didn’t feel good about it. I thought it best for me to back out in time for them to find a replacement instead of possibly being in a situation where my flight was delayed or canceled on Friday and they were stuck with no one. And I REALLY didn’t want to get stuck in Toronto for days and not be able to get home if things get bad.

Luckily, my contact at Wanderulst was super understanding and said she would have made the same decision if she was in my shoes. I look forward to the Cincinnati event in October!

Today I made the non-difficult decision of grabbing a slice of cake at Edible Art. They just opened a second location in Matthews and I was across the street for another appointment. I couldn’t resist stopping in. Edible Art is known for their amazing cakes and they sell them by the slice in their storefront. The cake is more dense and pound-caky but really good. I got a slice of lemon.

Oh and Finn found his foot for the first time tonight! He hung onto this thing all night after he grabbed it. He’ll be doing his baby yoga moves before I know it! 🙂

Thanks much for all of your input on digital privacy and babies/kids. I found your comments to be insightful and helpful. I didn’t mean that I never wanted to share a photo of Finn on the internet again but I just want to consider more what I do share and how much I want to share. I expect this will be a constant search for the right balance and will evolve as time passes.

I never thought my blog and Instagram would be taken over by baby and I promised you guys that it wouldn’t…but then it started feeling super baby-heavy. Now that I’m living life with a baby, it’s been my life so it’s hard not to incorporate it regularly. The shape of my days has changed so much and I guess the shape of my content has adjusted some as well.

No concrete answer to anything here (nor do I think I’ll find one) but wanted to circle back on that topic.

Tomorrow is a busy day. I have a couple of appointments, one of which is with the lactation consultant for a general check-in and help with pumping and breastfeeding questions. I feel so fortunate to have such great resources for breastfeeding through my healthcare system. I also need to get my ducks in a row in case the weather does get really bad. I think I need candles, lighters/matches, to charge external battery packs, to fill up water containers and I’m not sure what else. My mom had a great suggestion to fill a bathtub with water before the storm for washing/cleaning/toilet flushing/etc.

Time to watch something on Netflix or read and go to bed. Sending good wishes to all of you who will be impacted by the hurricane. Stay safe.

I cannot believe it’s been nearly a month since I completed Moab Run The Rocks! It’s a three-day stage race in Moab, Utah that’s put on by the same race organization, TransRockies Rockies Race Series, that I did my six-day Colorado race with back in August. TransRockies truly excels when it comes to planning and [...]

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

Potato and Broccoli Cheddar Soup

This potato and broccoli cheddar soup is a warm hug in a bowl. It’s a mash up of potato soup meets broccoli cheddar soup, and makes for a creamy, hearty and cheesy bowl that has just enough broccoli in it to make you feel like you’re getting your veggies in for a complete meal. POTATO [...]
