A Heart Full of Family

Finn and I arrived home from Florida around noon today and I can’t lie…this goodbye was a tough one. We had the best and most relaxing visit with my family. I was sad to leave…but of course grateful for the time we got to spend.

I do fully realize how fortunate I am to be able to travel to see them so frequently but gosh do I ever wish we were all closer. A friend of mine recently commented to me, “isn’t it crazy how much closer you grow to your own family after you have a child?” And it’s so true. I’ve always been close with my family but since Finn was born, things have changed so much.

I also have to note that I am very lucky that I can do a lot of my work (all but teaching/leading trainings) from anywhere. Now that Finn is on a more predictable schedule, I’m able to maximize naptimes and after bedtime to work on my yoga trainings and blog work.

Finn and I always stay at my grandmother’s place (most of you probably remember she’s just one floor down from my parents). When I talked to her tonight she said it was so quiet without us! I miss her so much already.

We spent most of our long weekend hanging out around the house, playing and going on walks. I think I left the condo development…oh three times in five days? Two grocery store runs and one yoga class. Perfect in my book. I’ve always been a bit of a homebody but even more so these days!

The big excitement of our visit was the annual Mardi Gras themed low country boil that my parent’s condo association hosts for the snowbirds that travel down to spend their winters at the beach. My dad is on the board and both of my parents are on the social committee so they were very happy when I scheduled our visit during one of the big events.

The food was crazy delicious. The condo association provided low country boil.

And everyone brought a dish to share. I have always loved potlucks so I was in heaven.

Also in heaven were my parents and my sweet boy. My parents were so excited to introduce Finn to everyone, and Finn was happy to “entertain” as my grandmother says. He was basically in a room full of grandparents so he wasn’t lacking for attention! haha

And for the record…Finn discovered his love for shrimp on this trip. He ate it two nights in a row and crushed it. So cute.

My grandmother and I watched A Star Is Born last night and y’all…I found it to be rather depressing. I adore Lady Gaga but that movie was all sorts of heavy and hard for me. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it. My grandmother and I both agreed that we want to go back and watch the last version of the movie with Barbara Streisand. So there’s a reason to book my next trip ASAP. 😉

But seriously…we will be back very soon. These trips fill my heart up like nothing else.

Have you ever had low country boil?

What did you think of A Star Is Born?

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
