Mom Down

Oh man. Just a few hours after hitting publish on my weekend recap post on Monday, Finn’s stomach bug hit me…and it hit hard.

What I am amazed by is how quickly it hit. I went out for that run that I was talking about after writing my last post. I ran five miles and it felt so easy and so good.

Finn and I ate lunch and then I got him down for an afternoon nap a little later. When he woke up I needed to run a few errands. I called my mom on the way to Target and said, “I’m not sure if it’s in my head or if I feel a little funny.” I had a few passing waves of nausea in Target, ran another errand and by the time I was pulling into my driveway, it was all I could do to get the car in park before getting sick.

I was really grateful that this sickness hit around 5 p.m. Finn and I took a shower, got into PJs and got straight into bed. The rest of my Monday evening was truly terrible. I’ll spare you the gory details but let’s just say that at one point I was hugging the toilet, Finn was crying and proceeded to poop. So I was changing him while trying not to also get sick ON him.

I tried to put Finn down for bed in his crib but he was just standing up and holding onto the rails and crying so I just brought him into bed with me. The only way that I could nurse him was side-lying anyway so it was best for both of us. Thankfully, he fell asleep  around 8 and slept well minus nursing a couple of times through the night. I slept on and off while waking to get sick until that tapered off around 3 a.m.

When Tuesday morning rolled around, I was grateful that the vomiting had passed but I felt like I’d been hit by a train. I could not believe how achy this bug made me. My low back and legs were killing me all night and well into Tuesday. I had fever and chills. I also had a headache from dehydration. Finn and I took it super easy on Tuesday. We took a two hour morning nap together and laid low all day. Tylenol helped a lot with the achiness and fever.

The only thing that I was able to stomach all day was coconut water, pedialyte and one peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I took an epsom salt bath after getting Finn down for bed last night and it was seriously amazing. I recommend this if you are recovering from a sickness like this.

After crawling into bed around 8:30 p.m. last night and getting a good night’s rest, I am feeling much better today. I teach three classes on Wednesdays but I got subs for all of them because a) I think I need to keep resting and rehydrating and b) I do not want to take the chance of spreading this stuff and I was scheduled to teach at three different places today. I have read that you are still contagious for a couple of days after so better safe than sorry. This is not the kind of yoga/fitness love that I want to be spreading.

Also, Finn and I are scheduled to head to Florida for Easter weekend so I want to be sure that I am rested and ready for that. I do not want to take these germs on a plane or to my family.

I seriously don’t know if I can ever remember having a stomach bug so sudden and so violent in my whole life. How I went from running five miles to curled up in the fetal position in a matter of hours is baffling to me. It was truly terrible and makes me so sad for how Finn must have been feeling when he had it. Someone messaged me on Instagram that she got a stomach bug from her toddler while 28 weeks pregnant and had to go to the hospital to get fluids. Now THAT sounds like a special kind of hell.

I am currently in the process of washing basically everything in my house in hot water and spraying everything down with Lysol. I hope it is a very long time, preferably never, until we deal with this again. (I know I’m dreaming…)

I wish that I had a more fun update for you today but that is what the first half of the week looked like around here. Looking forward to a much brighter and happier second half of the week and Easter weekend! Gosh, there is nothing like feeling truly awful to make you appreciate your health and feeling good so much.

What are your Easter weekend plans?

How has your week started off?

Last time you had a 24 hour bug? How long did it take you to feel back to normal and rehydrated?
