This post is sponsored by FAGE, however all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Every time I go to visit my family in Florida, one of the first things that I do is run to the grocery to stock the fridge with my must-haves. Funny story. When I visit and open my parent’s fridge I usually comment, “there’s nothing to eat.” On my mom’s most recent visit she opened my fridge and said, “there’s nothing for lunch.” I proceeded to list out all of the delicious things she could make from the contents of my fridge. It seems we all have our personal preferences! 🙂
MY FRIDGE STAPLES
I thought it would be fun to show you guys what my fridge staples are and to hear about yours. I actually can’t believe that I’ve never written a post about this…it’s going to be fun.
ALL THE WAYS TO HYDRATE
I drink a ton of fluids throughout the course of the day…most days easily over 100 ounces. Most of that is water but I also drink a lot of sparkling water (especially during the summer), kombucha and coconut water. You’ll also find milk or milk alternatives.
LOTS OF CONDIMENTS
Ketchup, barbecue sauce, fish sauce, soy sauce, coconut aminos, mayo, mustard, hot sauce, relish, olives, jam, maple syrup, worcestershire sauce, chocolate syrup, salsa, four different salad dressings and more.
A SELECTION OF NUT/SEED BUTTERS
Currently peanut butter, almond butter, sunflower seed butter and tahini.
HIGH-QUALITY BUTTER
You will never find me without good salted and unsalted butter. I use salted butter every single day for everything from cooking eggs to spreading on bagels to mixing into mashed sweet potatoes and more. I cook 90% of Finn’s food in butter. I keep unsalted butter for baking.
AVOCADOS
It feels like a situation when I don’t have any avocados on hand. Salads and sandwiches seem sad and pointless without them. I buy 4-5 avocados at a time and stick them in the fridge when they reach their perfect level of ripeness. They will keep for about a week in the fridge like this.
FRUIT
I eat a ton of fruit. What you’ll find in my fruit drawer varies based on the season but one thing I always have is apples. Other favorites are grapes, blueberries and pineapple.
GREENS
The selection of veggies in my vegetable drawer varies again based on season and what I’m cooking that week but I always keep some sort of greens on hand. This is usually spinach, arugula or kale. I can use it in salads, as a base for grain bowls, in recipes, etc.
APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
I keep raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar in the fridge. It’s a powerhouse…I use it on my skin, I cook with it, I clean with it and I even take shots of it when I’m sick or trying to prevent getting sick.
DATES
I love the big, soft Medjool dates that you can find in the refrigerated section of grocery stores. They’re wonderful for naturally sweetening things like smoothies, salad dressings, baked goods, etc. Also delicious plain with a smear of nut butter.
CHEESE
I typically keep three types of cheese on hand at all times: 1) slices for sandwiches (colby-jack, pepper jack, havarti, provolone, muenster are faves), 2) a crumbly cheese for salads and grain bowls (feta or goat) and 3) hard cheeses for grating (usually parmesan). Right now I also have some nice snacking cheeses too.
I also almost always have cream cheese and cottage cheese. I know these aren’t technically cheeses but it works well to include them in this section!
EASY PROTEIN SOURCES
I always have eggs and some sort of deli meat. I also rotate in things like rotisserie chicken and smoked salmon.
PLAIN FULL-FAT GREEK YOGURT
This is not the first time that you’ve heard me talk about how plain full-fat greek yogurt is a staple for me…nor is it the last! You will never open my fridge and not find the 35.3 ounce container of FAGE Total 5% Plain Greek yogurt.
This has been a bi-weekly grocery store purchase for me long before I started this partnership. I have tried all the brands of plain Greek yogurt and I keep coming back to FAGE for its delicious, rich taste and unbelievably smooth and creamy texture. Also, FAGE Total Plain is made with only milk and live active yogurt cultures. You won’t find added sugar or artificial sweeteners.
If you think you don’t like plain Greek yogurt, you can’t say that until you try a spoonful of FAGE! It’s the only plain Greek yogurt that I can eat straight up and it’s been fun to convert so many of you guys to fans of it too. 🙂
Of course it’s great when it’s piled high with toppings like granola, fruit and nut butter.
But that’s not the only way to enjoy FAGE Total 5% Plain, it’s so versatile and I use it in both sweet and savory ways all the way from breakfast to dessert! Here are some of the other ways that I use FAGE:
- Smoothies
- Salad dressings
- Baked goods
- As a sub for sour cream
- Grain bowls
- In tuna/chicken/salmon salads
- Sauces like aiolis and cremas
- Frozen desserts
- Soup/stew topper
This is a rice bowl with chicken tossed in salsa and served over greens. Topped with FAGE Total 5% Plain Greek Yogurt, cilantro, green onions, lime wedges and avocado.
A one-cup serving of FAGE Total 5% Plain Greek yogurt has 210 calories, 7 grams of sugar (naturally occurring, not added) and 20 grams of protein. Doesn’t get much better than that!
YOUR TURN!
What are your fridge staples? I would love to hear them!
What condiment can you not live without? For me it would be Duke’s mayo!
What are your favorite ways to use Greek yogurt?
