Retreat Week Eats + Workouts

It’s been a bit of a rough few days transitioning back home after the retreat. Finn came down with another cold while I was gone and is also cutting his first molars. The combo of those two things + me being gone for a week made for a Sunday where  I literally couldn’t put him down all day. He would just stand at my feet and hug my shins. Of course, I was happy to give him all the snuggles but I was also worried about him as he kept pulling on his ears and seemed miserable.

I took him into the pediatrician first thing Monday morning and he said that while there was fluid behind Finn’s eardrums, there was no infection (I was so relieved). He did confirm there were two molars erupting so he said the combo of the two was probably making him feel pretty bad.

In the midst of this I also had a bit of a stomach bug the first couple of days home and am now fighting off Finn’s cold. And this mama is tired because we have been up 2-3 times every night with teething and congestion. Not complaining one bit but also not in Jamaica anymore. 😉

Speaking of Jamaica! I thought I’d share some of what I ate on the retreat and how I worked out given that it was a yoga + fitness retreat.

RETREAT WEEK EATS

Prior to our morning workouts and yoga classes, I’d usually have coffee and a light bite.

Here’s a “first breakfast” example for you. Coffee, fruit, croissants, jam and juice.

After class we would hit up the buffet together for brunch. I really liked the muesli that they had on the buffet. It was very overnight oats-ish. I also adored the crepes. They were made to order and super delicious. Each day I had some sort of eggs. Most days I went to the omelet station and asked for a plain omelet or scrambled eggs.

Another buffet breakfast but this one with plain yogurt and toppings instead of muesli and a medium boiled egg instead of an omelet.

My airport transfer was at 7:30a the morning that I left so I ordered a full room service breakfast to my room. I ate the above + fruit.

We ate lunch each day at the lunch buffet overlooking the ocean. It was a great, casual setup. The jerk chicken was very good and on this day they had sushi that was the best all-inclusive resort sushi that I’ve ever had. My expectations were low but I was pleasantly surprised. The salad bar had ample options.

Another lunch plate similar to the above. This is the day that I discovered that they had housemade tortilla chips…and they were YUM!

By the final two days of the retreat, my lunches looked like two slices of pizza dipped in ranch and a big plateful of chips, guac and cheese dip. I got to this point with food towards the end of the trip where I just wanted simple stuff and lots of carbs. 🙂

I kind of lost steam by the time we made it to dinner. On the first night I ordered room service and ate in my room before our welcome cocktail hour because I had to finish a project that was due. I had fish with veggies and potatoes, beef carpaccio and I can’t remember what this dessert was.

One thing I didn’t love about the resort was that they did the whole dinner reservations thing. This actually deterred me from trying a few of the restaurants and opting for room service or the buffet instead. On this evening I did chance showing up at the oceanfront Jamaican restaurant and chancing a walk-in reservation.

I was seated immediately and ordered some tasty jerk pork spring rolls, stuffed halibut and a coconut mousse.

I also ate at the “surf and turf” restaurant for dinner one night for our group dinner but didn’t take any pictures.

If you’d like to read more about my vacation fitness and food mindset and how to find one that works for you, read this post! It was a reader request and I received good feedback on it. I love a good mix of movement and planting myself in a lounge chair with a fruity cocktail. 🙂
