Slogging

Good morning. I got up early to have some time to write a blog post before I head out to work. On Thursday mornings I teach a double header of hot yoga and strength and then train a client after.

But…the creative juices just aren’t flowing for this post. This week has been a bit of a slog both personally and professionally. I’ve never used that word in a blog post but it’s a most accurate descriptor of what it’s felt like so I guess that I’m “slogging” instead of blogging today. 🙂

I know you guys know this but I try to stay mindful of making sure that my content is real life and not just curated, aspirational highlights. Sometimes it can feel like a challenge to share the more mundane/hard/stressful/real parts of life without it coming across as negative or complaining. A part of me feel guilty for saying, “It’s been a hard week” but I also know that some of you have probably had hard weeks too and I would never tell you that there’s something wrong with that.

I think back a lot to my the time evaluation exercise that I posted a few years ago. (I still make all of my teacher trainees do this, by the way.) Remembering that we all have a “shit quota” of things that we have to do personally and professionally as adults is super helpful but I also think it’s important and powerful to regularly evaluate how we’re spending our time and energy to identify ways that we can make it more productive and/or enjoyable.

I did a lot of this this week. It was rainy/cloudy Monday-Wednesday so I spent long stretches of time in my comfy clothes and slippers plugging away at spreadsheets, contracts, emails, manuals and the like. Zoey was great company for all of this. While I don’t think I’ll ever truly feel caught up or on top of everything, I am proud of what I’ve accomplished this week and feel good about it!

Speaking of my furry companion, and on a more exciting note, back in early November I submitted an application to a golden retriever rescue. The approval process was a long and involved one but I finally got my official approval email last week. There is no guarantee on the timing but I am staying open to opening our home to a dog when we are the right family for that dog. <3

Finn has brought me no shortage of smiles. He’s still loving socks and this week he has been all about Mickey Mouse. This is so cute because he’s never been one for stuffed animals. I’ve loved watching him walk around with Mickey and be so excited about him. Oh, he also has a new skill of yelling “mooooommmmmmmyyyyyy” as dramatically as possible. He has definitely figured out how to tug on my heartstrings with that one.

I’ll leave you with two things.

Every single day I work to release control over the things that I have zero control over (which is a lot!). A whole lot of peace comes with accepting that things are constantly changing. Yesterday is done. I will do the best I can today with the tools I have. I won’t worry unnecessarily about tomorrow.

Daily goals. <3

Wishing you a good day, whether it’s an easeful or tough week for you.

It’s a three-day stage race in Moab, Utah that’s put on by the same race organization, TransRockies Rockies Race Series, that I did my six-day Colorado race with back in August. TransRockies truly excels when it comes to planning and [...]
