Weekend Adventures with Catboy

I hope that the first day of November and the time change are treating you well. I saw a funny meme online last week that said something to the effect of “the last thing we need is an extra hour of 2020.” Hopefully most of us spent that extra hour sleeping! 🙂

It’s been a great weekend for me hanging out with Finn and celebrating Halloween.

I squeezed in a run on Friday before I relieved our nanny for the weekend. It felt amazing and the weather was perfection.

Finn and I spent the whole afternoon outside. We went to the park and then on a long walk (I call anything over a mile long for Finn when he’s on foot!) around the neighborhood looking at Halloween decorations. Finn had so much fun pointing out all of the ghosts, witches, spiders and pumpkins. Halloween spider decorations are by far his favorite due to his love for Itsy Bitsy Spider.

Our final Friday activity was early voting!!! We were in and out in about 30 minutes and it feels great to have it done. (Finn and I were inadvertently twinning on Friday, haha.)

Our Halloween kicked off with a quiet morning at home. Finn played in the kitchen while I prepped cabbage rolls for dinner (didn’t get to making them last Wednesday). While I was cooking I got a text message from the owner of Charlotte Yoga that there was an emergency sub need for a class that started in 45 minutes. I jokingly said I could do it if Finn could come…and she took me up on it! We scooted over to the studio and Finn hung out with the front desk exploring the studio, reading books, eating snacks and watching PJ Masks while I taught class. It worked!

Later that day it was time to get ready for Halloween. Finn wanted to be the blue PJ Mask for Halloween after seeing his friend Jacob’s green costume. As I mentioned a few days ago, I was uncertain if Finn would wear the costume but I did get it on him and he liked it! He wouldn’t wear the headpiece or the tail but he loved being Catboy! 🙂

For those of you who are like…what is PJ Masks…it’s a superhero show for pre-schoolers.

“Kids like superheroes, so what could be better for tykes than becoming superheroes themselves? That’s what happens at night for young friends Connor, Amaya and Greg. When they put on their pyjamas and activate their animal amulets, they turn into their alter egos — Catboy, Owlette and Gekko — before embarking on adventures that are filled with action. Along the way, they solve mysteries and learn valuable lessons. The animated series is based on the `Les Pyjamasques’ book series by French author Romuald Racioppo.”

PJ Masks, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Little Baby Bum are Finn’s current favorite shows.

Finn’s dad came and got him around 4p so they could spend some time together on Halloween. Apparently they were practicing getting just one piece of candy for trick or treating and Finn picked up the whole bowl and dumped it in his basket. 🙂

He came back to me around 6p and Finn was READY to do more trick or treating! I spent the next hour chasing a very fast Catboy around the neighborhood. He was smiling, laughing and having the best time. His favorite thing of the night was the house down the street with a smoke machine. (And they had a big spider decoration! Jackpot!)

This was the first year that Finn really “got” trick or treating and Halloween and it was really fun and sweet to watch. Also, our neighborhood just really went above and beyond in making it special for the kids.

Rather than go door-to-door, most people either had candy sitting out at the end of their driveways or were sitting in their driveways with chairs, fire pits and candy. It was one of my favorite Halloweens ever…and a definite bright spot in the weird year that has been 2020.

I hope that you guys had a nice weekend and a fun Halloween! I hear Finn upstairs playing after his nap so I’m signing off here.

QUESTIONS

How did you celebrate Halloween this year?

What’s your favorite type of Halloween candy? (Finn must know his mama well because he was choosing lots of Reese’s when he was trick or treating!)
