Weekend + Monday Things

Hello, hello, hello! How was your Monday? Mine was pretty great. I started it with a run and teaching yoga before transitioning to mom mode around noon to get QT in with my boy for the rest of the day. I spent the weekend in Tennessee leading weekend six of our 200-hour yoga teacher training at VIDA Hot Yoga so I was ready for downtime with Finn this afternoon.

I had a little change of pace for TT this weekend. Due to a NASCAR event at Bristol Motor Speedway, every hotel within 60 miles of the studio was booked. I stayed at the studio owner’s house (they were out of town for spring break) and it was really nice to be in a home setting. I was only there to sleep Friday and Saturday but loved having the ability to make my dinners in their kitchen rather than eat out.

Also, they have three ridiculously cute shih tzus. Never have I ever fancied myself a small dog person but I really enjoyed hanging out with these three. Gerti, the one on the far left, is so humanlike and chill. She is one of those truly special dogs where you wonder how god made such a perfect creature. Gigi, the one in the middle, was described to me as “emotionally unstable” but we made fast friends. She sat in my lap a long time on Saturday night during a thunder storm. Nori, the one on the far right, is the baby of the pack and full of energy and spunk. Dogs are the best.

Our training weekend was just as great and intense as it normally is. Here’s a sampling of what we covered this weekend:

  • Three hot power yoga practices (Fri, Sat, Sun)
  • Backbending clinic
  • Floor pose assists
  • The 5 Kleshas: Avidya
  • Standing series sequencing
  • Floor work sequencing
  • Practice teaching
  • Parts of the core and postures/movements that work them

I have assisted, co-led and led over 15 yoga teacher trainings now and the process never ceases to amaze me. Each group has its own personality and cadence and I learn so much about leadership and yoga from every single training.

We had wild weather in Kingsport this weekend. So much so that I had to delay our start on Sunday morning due to flash floods. Luckily, it cleared up before I drove home but it did make for some beautiful skies. This rainbow stayed with me for about 30 minutes of my drive. There’s something about seeing a rainbow like this that feels like some type of sign/message.

I got home around 8p and while our nanny had Finn in bed, he was definitely waiting for mommy to get home. I went upstairs to tuck him in and tell him goodnight but he snuck downstairs a little bit later and wanted to sit in my lap, eat crackers and snuggle. I didn’t get this nugget to bed until 9:45p!

I teach yoga on Monday mornings at 10:30a and getting a run in before I teach is one of my favorite things to do. I just find it to be the best start to the week and love how it makes me feel.

I met our nanny at the studio after I teach to take over with Finn. We went to Whole Foods to stock up on groceries and then came home. He took a short nap and then we spent the afternoon cleaning around the house before his swim lesson.

Gosh, this little fish rocked his swim lesson and kept his goggles on for the entire lesson for the first time ever! I just joined the pool in our neighborhood for the summer season (it’s only half a mile from us!) and can’t wait for lots of time in the water with him.

Our evening looked like lots of snuggles. Finn loves to say, “mommy…come snuggle with me.” And when I did tonight he put his little hand on my arm and kept it there. Heart melting.

I’m really looking forward to the rest of this week and next weekend. I have some fun get togethers planned with friends and then I’m picking up my nieces to spend Easter weekend and the first part of their spring break with us! YAY YAY YAY!

QUESTIONS

What are you doing for Easter?

Are you a big or little dog kind of person?

What’s your favorite workout to do on a Monday?
