Glory, Glory! Dawgs on Top!

Hello to all of you on this fine Tuesday morning. I am drinking all the coffee because I stayed up way too late but but it was 100% WORTH IT!

DAWGS ON TOP!

Last night I watched my Georgia Bulldogs win our first national championship title since 1980! Glory, glory to old Georgia! <3

The first three quarters of the game were a slow defensive struggle like so many SEC games are. The two teams traded a handful of field goals and I was feeling all the stress. We scored a touchdown late in the third and then had an explosive fourth quarter that included an Alabama field goal, an Alabama touchdown, a Georgia fumble followed by two Georgia touchdowns and then finally a Georgia pick six with a minute left in the game that sealed the deal and we won 33-18!

After the controversial fumble call, our former walk-on quarterback Stetson Bennett dug his heels in and got to work. In interviews after the game he said, “I just knew there was going to be no way we were going to let a turnover like that stop us from winning a national championship. I wasn’t going to let that happen. I wasn’t going to be the reason we lost it.”

Bennett has been the recipient of a lot of scrutiny after he took over the starting job from J.T. Daniels who was injured early in the season. Many people said over and over again that he was a weak link in our otherwise strong program but he always kept his head down and kept pushing forward. I have always admired his grit and belief in perseverance and hard work. He even got a flip phone to minimize distraction so he could focus on schoolwork and football. He’s never expected anything to be handed to him and saw a childhood dream come true last night. You can read more about his story here and here. (I just love inspirational sports stories, don’t you?)

But this is not a championship win that was just in the hands of our quarterback – our whole team deserves recognition for the season they had, the way they prepared, the connection they share and how they ultimately played last night. This wasn’t just a great win for our quarterback but for every single player, the coaching staff and the entire Bulldog Nation.

I know some of you probably think I’m crazy for how much I love Georgia football but being born and raised in Georgia and graduating from the University of Georgia, it’s in my blood. We literally say that we “bleed red and black” and I grew up believing that the Bulldogs were the greatest team in the land. I went to every single home game when I was a student at the University of Georgia and have so many fun memories of Saturdays between the hedges.

While this National Championship title is very sweet, I can honestly say that win or lose…it’s always been great to be a Georgia Bulldog!

GAMEDAY DINNER

I had Finn with me last night so I made it a quiet game watching party for one after he went down to bed. I cannot believe he slept through my hooting and hollering in the fourth quarter. I pulled some chili out of the freezer and ate it with a salad. It made for a perfect football dinner on a cold night.

MOM LIFE

Prior to the game, Finn and I took a trip to Target to stock up on household stuff. I was cracking up at his paper towel pillow as we were heading to the checkout.

Charlotte swim academy

In other Finn news, he started swim lessons again last week! They’ve been on break since Thanksgiving. We’re doing 30-minute lessons this session because he loves it so much (he was doing 20 before). We have been going to Charlotte Swim Academy for the last two years and I cannot recommend them enough if you’re in Charlotte! All of the sessions are 20- or 30-minute private sessions and everything is so organized. Finn enjoys the lessons and most importantly, he’s made a ton of progress. He was so close to swimming last summer and I think after winter and spring session, he will be there this summer!

I have loved every single age and stage for various reasons…some more than others of course…but being Finn’s mom has been the greatest joy of my life. I am just having so much fun with him at this stage. He’s so playful, creative, talkative and fun while still being so affectionate, empathetic and sweet. I am so proud of him and he fills my heart with so much happiness and love every day.

Finally, no update on my mom. We are still waiting and appreciate continued prayers.
