Opa!

I am stuffed from a Greek feast! I LOVE Greek food but more about that in a minute. Let’s backtrack and cover the rest of the day.

I was up early this morning for a hot class with Suzanne at Charlotte Yoga. Before heading to class I had a piece of whole wheat toast with Justin’s Honey Almond Butter and some grapes. I emerged from 90 minutes of hot yoga drenched in sweat and changed into dry clothes at the studio and headed out to the farmer’s market.

First a stop at Starbucks. I had a coupon for a free drink so I splurged and ordered a grande Frappuccino light with an extra shot of espresso. I think if finished it in under five minutes – so refreshing after my hot class.

I picked up produce for the week as well as some watermelon and fresh flowers at the market. My produce haul included okra, tomatoes, green onions, fingerling potatoes, squash and zucchini and romaine lettuce. After the farmer’s market, I stopped by Great Harvest for a loaf of freshly baked honey wheat bread.

My parents arrived around 1:30 and after a quick house tour, I set out a sandwich spread.

My lunch was half sandwich with turkey, white sharp cheddar, light mayo, spicy mustard, avocado, tomato and lettuce. The Great Harvest bread really kicked up this sandwich. If you have one in your area, I definitely recommend that you give it a try! I had two pieces of watermelon on the side – it was SO sweet and delicious.

After lunch I had a homemade lemon bar from a batch I whipped up last night. Two thumbs up – will be blogging about them soon on the food blog.

This afternoon we spent a long time in the yard trying to figure out what everything is (our yard is awesome – but a bit of a jungle!) and what needs to go and stay. So thankful to have my parents help.

Dinner tonight was a treat – Greek Isles! When we arrived we discovered that they were offering a special three-course menu for $20. My mom, Brandon and I decided to go with that. My dad ordered off the normal menu.

We started out with two appetizers for the table (outside of the three courses). Grilled 0ctopus and a sampler of spreads.

I loved the grilled octopus. So glad my dad ordered this!

The spreads were served with fresh warm pita and were all outstanding. My favorite was the eggplant!

For my three courses I selected a greek salad, spanokopita and baklava.

I usually hate capers (one of the few foods I dislike) but I keep trying them hoping that I’ll start liking them. Still not a fan but they weren’t terrible in the salad mix.

The spanakopita was supposed to be served with potatoes but I asked that they substitute a veggie instead. The green beans were great! I ate half of each and brought the rest home. Enough for another full meal. I had to save a little bit of room for my baklava! 🙂

Baklava is one of my all-time favorite desserts and this one didn’t diappoint. On the way out of the restaurant I actually met the woman who makes all of the desserts for the restaurant. So cool!

We’re all in food comas now but the Greek feast was all I hoped it would be. Yum!

Do you like Greek food? What’s your favorite thing to order?

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
