Isle of Palms Weekend

Hello everyone! Catching up? Read about part one of my weekend in Isle of Palms here.

I was really concerned that it was going to be cloudy and gray on Saturday but miraculously, right after I hit “publish” on my blog post, the clouds parted and the sun shined all day. It was beautiful!

I hurried out to meet up with everyone and this is how I was greeted at the pool.

I warned y’all that I would be posting cute baby pictures! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Brandon and I went down to the beach and enjoyed a little quiet beach time and conversation with just the two of us. When hunger finally struck we went back up to the pool for a lunch.

I had a salad topped with mahi and balsamic vinaigrette. Nice and light.

After lunch we played beach games (bocce anyone!?), swam and read. Then it was pina colada time!

Brandon blended up pina coladas with a generous dark rum float. Is there anything better than pina coladas poolside on vacation? ๐Ÿ˜€

My niece, Scarlett, was feeling a little fussy and I was feeling a little too sun-kissed so I moved into the shade and tried to get her to relax.

Apparently I am the baby whisperer – after a little singing and rocking she was out cold on my lap. My sister in law told me this was the first time she’d ever napped outside.

I passed her off to Brandon when she woke up and he had fun putting her into baby yoga poses.

Happy baby! (Actually more like grumpy baby!)

We had dinner reservations at Hank’s in downtown Charleston Saturday night. Brandon and I are terrible about taking pictures together so we had a quick photo shoot before dinner.

Hank’s is one of our favorite restaurants in Charleston. They’re known for having amazing seafood.

Brandon and I split a bowl of She Crab Soup to start. It was delicious, rich and full of lump crab meat.

I ordered the special which was Sauteed Cobia over Blue Cheese Gratin Potatoes, Sauteed Spinach and finished with a Truffle Red Wine Sauce.

It was amazing. If you haven’t had Cobia, it is a meaty, mild white fish.

And even though I didn’t really have room for dessert I couldn’t resist. I am in love with the Peanut Butter Pie at Hank’s and haven’t had it in years.

Brandon and I shared this. It was just as good as I remembered and I’m glad I made room for it!

We hit the beach for a couple more hours this morning before heading home. We stopped at Home Team Barbecue on Sullivan’s Island for lunch on the way out. We’d heard great things about it and it lived up to the hype. It also had a great atmosphere with indoor/outdoor open seating – very islandy feeling.

After last night’s feast I wanted to keep it light. I ordered a salad with mixed greens, roasted corn, sunflower seeds, tomato, cucumber and smoked chicken. It was served with a roasted poblano dressing. Delicious!

I was debating a run or yoga class when we got back to Charlotte. The run won because I needed to get the miles in and the yoga class wasn’t until 7:30 and I knew I wouldn’t get home until 9 and would be stressed about everything I needed to do. I’m SO GLAD I decided to run. It took me a lot of motivation to get out there but once I started running I was really in the groove. I ended up maintaining an aggressive pace (for me) and knocking out five miles in 43:40. My average pace was 8:44.

I was sweaty, tired, happy and proud when I got home.

Thumbs up to an awesome effort! ๐Ÿ™‚

I didn’t have much of an appetite tonight and a bowl of oatmeal sounded simple and perfect for dinner.

My new favorite summer mix…oats, Bob’s 10-grain hot cereal, water, almond milk, dash salt, cinnamon, chia seeds, half of a banana, dried cranberries and blueberries. On top, Crofter’s, peanut butter and a sliced peach.

And I leave you with this.

Oh my, the NFL pre-season has officially begun and I am losing my husband on Sundays until January. He just informed me that he is going to be in FIVE fantasy leagues this year. Sigh…

Is your significant other a football lover? NFL? Fantasy teams?

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Georgia Bulldogs and don’t miss the games but I can’t do all day football on Sundays too for the NFL!

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
