Jumping for Joy

This post could also be titled “The Power of Rest and Medical Care” because a week of rest and therapy has paid off.

I just ran a 5k with minimal (seriously, hardly any) pain. When I got home I was jumping for joy (and let’s take a second to appreciate the former cheerleader coming out in this picture – toes pointed, arms in a perfect V…I don’t think my body will ever forget these things 🙂 ). I had another appointment for my hamstring at lunch today and was encouraged to try running again after work. I was so nervous but when I realized that I wasn’t in pain I relaxed and got in the groove.

I maintained an easy 9ish minute mile pace and knocked out 3.1 miles. The only time I felt any twinge of pain was on some of the hills. I tried to just back off and take it easy. While I’m not going to go out and run 18 miles tomorrow, I am feeling encouraged and happy.

I know that you’re all probably getting a little sick of hearing about my injury drama but it’s part of training and being an athlete and I couldn’t not talk about it. Hopefully it will be mostly good news moving forward!

I was not able to update last night because we had a power outage. I was forced to head to bed and read by candlelight at 9:45 (the horror).

Yesterday’s photographed eats were as follows…

A hummus plate with pita chips made from my homemade pita bread. I drizzled them with olive oil, kosher salt and a dash of Italian seasoning.

Last night was taco night! I decided to make taco salad with the fixings. I piled a plate high with organic blue corn chips, mixed greens, corn, avocado, refried beans, cheddar cheese, sour cream, ground turkey, salsa and hot sauce. This totally hit the spot. If you don’t love taco night then you’re not normal! 😉

I was so happy to bring back my Friday morning yoga tradition after taking last week off. I used blocks and modifications again to make sure that my practice didn’t stress my hamstring. I was so incredibly happy just to be there. I was so in my yoga groove that I didn’t even notice that Sarah was just one mat down from me. An extra special Friday treat to see her!

Lunch today was a random assortment of food thrown into my lunchbox in haste after my hamstring appointment.

Trader Joe’s veggie burger on a sandwich thin, Triscuits, cottage cheese and carrots. I love dipping Triscuits in cottage cheese – am I weird?

Around 3 p.m. I heard that there were cookies in the kitchen leftover from a meeting. I made a beeline to check them out and was so excited to find that not only were they from Dean and Deluca but there was oatmeal raisin. Made my day! Fuel for my run, right!? There is no denying my sweet tooth!

Off to shower and figure out what we’re going to do for dinner. I’m subbing a BodyPump class and taking Sullie to the vet tomorrow morning (poor thing has an ear infection) but other than that we have no plans. Ahh…relaxing!

What do you have planned this weekend?

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
