Fall Grilling

I’m taking a break from listening to really terrible music to update the blog. I’m downloading music for the new classes I’ll be teaching this weekend and it’s slim picking. The “workout music” selection on iTunes is made up of a lot of horrendous techno-ish covers. Wow. I can’t use my BodyPump music because it’s copyrighted for Les Mills classes only. Hoping I can find something decent. Do people really want to feel like they’re in a bad club at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning? I think not. Sigh…

Today was long. I left the house at 8 a.m. and didn’t return until almost 8 p.m. I had a hair cut during my lunch break and taught BodyPump after work.

I packed lunch to eat at my desk after my appointment.

Homemade pita bread with melted sharp cheddar, hummus, apple slices and carrots. The piece de resistance was the half of a white chocolate macadamia cookie that I found in the kitchen at work that was leftover from a lunch meeting. I had an unsweetened Honest Community Green Tea on the side. This lunch kept me full all afternoon. I didn’t even need a snack before BodyPump.

When I got home Brandon had our patio setup rocking.

It was such a nice evening. The temperature was perfect.

Brandon grilled pork chops on the Big Green Egg and I made an apple compote to accompany them.

I diced an apple and placed it in a saucepan with a little water, lemon juice, dried cranberries, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and a pat of butter. I cooked it over low heat for about 25 minutes until the apples were completely soft.

I also roasted broccoli with olive oil, kosher salt and pepper on 400 for about 15 minutes. Brandon grilled a few slices of rosemary sourdough bread when the pork chops came off the grill. We both really enjoyed this dinner but neither of us could finish our pork chop. They were huge – we should have split one!

This is going to be a short post. I am ready for bed and have an early wake up call for yoga tomorrow morning. I have really cut back on my yoga days during the final push to the marathon (trying to avoid 2x day workouts if possible) and I am really feeling it – both mentally and physically. My mind and body want to be on my mat!

Two questions here…

1. Do I happen to have any fellow group ex instructors who can recommend decent music sources?

2. Do you enjoy eating outside? Do you still grill even when the temperatures get cooler? We are totally year-round grillers. I think grilled food is just as tasty/comforting during the winter as it is during the summer. We just change up the types of things we grill!

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
