Yoga, The Cowfish and a Long Run

It’s Sunday evening but I’m not having the typical, “How can the weekend be over so soon?” feelings. I’m looking forward to the short work week and a four-day weekend including Thanksgiving! I hope that you all have Friday off of work too!

Lots of happenings since I posted yesterday. I spent Saturday afternoon at the yoga studio for my 8-week ashtanga challenge workshop. I love ashtanga more and more every time I practice it. I still promise an overview post on ashtanga soon – I just need to get some pictures and video first!

I arrived home from yoga around 5:30 and Brandon and I planned to run to the mall and try the new Mellow Mushroom for dinner (so happy we have one in Charlotte now!). At 6:30 I received an email from two PBR readers inviting us to dinner. They had reservations for a special dinner event for the soft opening of a new restaurant and their friends cancelled on them at the last minute.

Enter The Cowfish. It is part sushi bar part burgers and beer. I don’t make these things up. The soft opening special was two appetizers for the table, one entree per person and two desserts for the table for a flat fee of $10 per person. Pretty nice! We delved into the menu…

…which we immediately likened to the Cheesecake Factory. Waaay too much to choose from. This is not a good thing for me, I am an indecisive person. We made the selection easier by assigning each couple to choose and appetizer and narrowed our dinner selection down to sushi instead of burgers.

Our first appetizer was Caribbean Summer Rolls – boiled shrimp, lettuce, mint, mango, cucumber and chives wrapped with thin rice paper and served with spicy peanut sauce.

And our second appetizer was sesame crusted tuna served over seaweed salad. I loved that the appetizers were definitely portioned to share.

Brandon and I split all of this sushi for dinner.

Overall, we all really enjoyed the sushi at The Cowfish but my only complaint is that the rice did not hold together and made for some messy sushi eating!

One thing that we all loved was the presentation of the food.

After we stuffed ourselves with sushi, we couldn’t say no to the dessert. There were only two dessert options so we got one of each.

Apple pie wontons with caramel dipping sauce.

And Shock O’Chocolate. Very rich!

Thank you Win and Marian for inviting us to dinner!

I was up again at 7:30 this morning. I really think I have lost my ability to sleep in. After eating a breakfast of leftover steel cut oats, I basically spent the rest of my day sweating.

It all started with my first post-marathon long run! First 3.6 with the furry one.

And last 5.6 solo for a total of 9.2!

It wasn’t the best long run ever but it was not bad either. I just had to work a little harder than usual to maintain my normal pace.

I felt really good after my run and Brandon was gone for the afternoon at the Panthers game so I decided to go to a hot yoga class. I quickly showered and made a snack before heading to class.

Plain Greek yogurt with Trader Joe’s Pumpkin Butter, granola, diced apples and about a teaspoon of almond butter.

Class was packed and I pretty much sweated my life away on the mat. It was fabulous, as always. After yoga I picked up a G2 the size of my head (seriously, it’s 64 ounces) and got to hydrating. I figured that 9.2 miles + 90 minute hot class called for electrolyte replacement. Don’t worry, I’ve probably only had about 20 ounces of sports drink. I think I’ll save the rest for later. ;).

Off to the grocery. Brandon has requested taco night!

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
