Fake Fires and Superfoods

I am happy to hear that others are on board with holiday healthy living choices. Just remember that I totally advocate splurges during the holidays but make sure it’s not a free for all and balance it out. 😉

I want to catch you guys up on Tuesday and Wednesday’s food and fitness. I started Tuesday off with an early ahstanga practice at Y2. I tweeted about this but every time I practice ashtanga I fall more in love with it. Tuesday’s practice was incredible. Now that I have the series committed to memory, I love that I can go into auto-pilot mode and get lost in my practice. I used to fear the self-guided practice but now my favorite thing about ashtanga is going at my own pace.

Breakfast on Tuesday was overnight oats at my desk. I picked up lunch at Earth Fare after an appointment at Varji & Varji for a brow wax with Ariana. My favorite thing about lunch appointments at Varji is hitting up Earth Fare after.

Heaven on a plate. All of my favorites- spinach, brussels sprouts, butternut squash, beets, wheatberries, walnuts and much more. I washed it all down with kombucha. Superfoods galore.

Brandon and I went to get our Christmas tree Tuesday after work. Tip for those of you who are in the market for a tree – go to Home Depot or Lowe’s. We got a 7-foot local tree for $29.99. The price at the local tree lot is $50+. I warmed my hands by the “fire” while we put up the tree.

It was a little too warm out to make a fire in our fireplace so we turned on the “Cracking Fire Christmas Tunes” station and got in the holiday spirit. Yes, we are nerds. 😉 We didn’t get the tree up until after 10 p.m. so we decided to wait to decorate it when we have more time. Hopefully tomorrow!

Pre-Christmas tree dinner…

I made chicken for Brandon and tofu for me. I seasoned it with the Dizzy Pig’s Shakin’ the Tree and baked it at 400 degrees for about 20-25 minutes. Garlic herb rice pilaf and green beans on the side. And do you notice an interested party in the background?

Wednesdays are the only day of the work week that I can sleep in so I took full advantage this morning and stayed in bed until 7:45. Oops! 😳 I made a quick pot of banana oats as I got ready for work. I have to share that I added a little bit of Silk Nog to the mix and it added so much flavor. Perfect for the holiday season.

Lunch today was a tofu sandwich with leftovers from last night.

I love tofu sandwiches. The consistency of the tofu is perfect for a sandwich. Mine included hummus, spinach, sharp cheddar and sprouts on whole wheat. I had half of an organic apple and cranberry sauce on the side.

It has been so windy here the past couple of days and the temperature dropped drastically today. I was really feeling a hot yoga class tonight instead of running but with a half-marathon coming up in 10 days that was not an option. It was 40 degrees and windy when I took off for my run so I bundled up.

And I looked ridiculous…tights, half zip, fleece vest, reflective vest, hat and gloves (um, I went out in public like this to restock on coffee at the grocery – embarrassing!). My hands were cold for the first mile or so but I warmed up and felt great for the duration of my 3.5 mile run with Sullie. We maintained an easy 9:00 pace.

Dinner tonight was leftovers.

Pasta with vodka sauce topped with parmesan and basil over a bed of spinach.

Are you guys surviving the drop in temperatures? How are your cold weather workouts going?

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
