Realigning

I have been ignoring it for a couple weeks but after this morning’s ashtanga practice it had to be addressed. I’m not injured (which I am oh so very thankful for!) but my body hasn’t been feeling right. My low back has been feeling compressed, I had a slight bit of neck pain during Sunday’s practice and twisting to the right has become increasingly difficult while I’ve been extremely open to the left. Weird, right?

We’ve been discussing body alignment in yoga teacher training and things with my body have definitely been feeling out of whack. I vented to the group last weekend that there’s always an issue. Why, despite how hard we try to be balanced and perfect bodies, is something always not quite right? My teacher made the analogy that our bodies are like race cars. They are high-performance machines and can make it 500 laps around the track but have to be brought in for service every now and then.

So I broke down this morning and finally made an appointment to see my friend and fellow blogger Jen’s husband, Jeff. He is a chiropractor who also happens to be an Ironman and understands my crazy physical activity. (He’s the one that helped me recover from my hamstring injury to make running the Marine Corps Marathon a possibility.) As I expected, some things were in serious need of adjustment. It’s amazing how much better I feel already. I can’t wait to see if it makes a difference in my practice.

Moving on… breakfast was overnight oats at my desk after ashtanga. I came home for lunch to enjoy a cold weather classic.

Grilled cheese and tomato soup. My sandwich was extra delicious – ciabatta with cheddar, provolone, spinach and peach hot pepper jam. You better believe that I put a pat of butter in the skillet! 😉

It wasn’t very hard to convince Brandon to stop at Starbucks on the way back to work. (We are so lucky to work a block away from each other and he always picks me up to go home for lunch!)

Soy Awake Tea Latte. Perfect afternoon treat.

After my visit with Jeff, I came home and got to cooking with Brandon. He’s been helping out with dinner all week and I love having company in the kitchen. Dinner tonight was something that one of my favorite bloggers posted today and we just happened to have all the ingredients on hand for.

Chorizo and Sweet Potato Hash – it was just as good as it looked in Cate’s pictures. We both loved this dinner!

Leaving you with a few pictures from last weekend. Brandon and Sullie went on a hike on Sunday while I was in teacher training. It was a beautiful day so they went to Crowder’s Mountain and knocked out seven miles! Wish I could have been there.

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
