A Night In NoDa

Hi friends – thank you for being patient with my random blogging schedule the past couple of days. Life is feeling really busy right now and I think it’s safe to say that I’m running at capacity! Fortunately, I love being busy and love everything that I have going on so I know I’ll make it through the next couple of crazy months.

Instead of blogging last night, I spent the evening in NoDa (a cool, artsy neighborhood) celebrating my sister-in-law’s birthday. Her actual birthday was in January but Brandon and I got her and her boyfriend tickets to see The Civil Wars. The show was last night and we promised dinner before.

We started at Growler’s Pourhouse for drinks and a casual dinner.

Lots of fun beers on draft to choose from.

We were all starving so we shared an appetizer.

Cheddar beer cheese and house made chips. I mean, can you really go wrong with chips and cheese dip? I think not. ๐Ÿ˜€

I ordered a panini for dinner.

Pesto, portobellos, roasted red peppers and goat cheese.

After dinner we headed to The Evening Muse for the show.

Rachael was excited about seeing The Civil Wars and we actually passed them on the sidewalk as we were walking to the venue. We gave them a “hi – can’t wait for the show” and I think they were surprised/excited to be recognized on the street.

The Evening Muse is a great venue. It’s very intimate and only holds around 100 people. We felt really lucky to see The Civil Wars in this setting.

The show was amazing. I can’t even get over how unbelievably talented Joy and John Paul are. Their music is beautiful and so full of emotion. They just released their first album last week and I seriously suggest that you check it out.

The best part? The show was over at 10:20 and I was home and in bed by 11 p.m. That made getting up to practice ashtanga this morning much easier!

Lunch today featured leftover tofu.

Roasted red pepper hummus, avocado, tofu, spinach and provolone on whole wheat sourdough. Coastal Living and a cute dog on the side. ๐Ÿ˜‰ (Side note: would anyone like to take me to the Caribbean? I need to be on an island with a pina colada in hand right now. Reading that Coastal Living is just cruel.)

And then…believe it or not…I put a top on my sandwich and cut it in half.

I love tofu sandwiches. Don’t knock it ’til you try it!

I ate a Cashew Cookie Larabar at my desk this afternoon before leaving to teach BodyPump. Class was good – I went heavy on my weights tonight so we’ll see how I feel tomorrow. Most likely, that will be a bit sore!

Dinner tonight was courtesy of the freezer and pantry.

We defrosted a pork tenderloin today and Brandon grilled it on the Big Green Egg with a Dizzy Pig rub. Green beans, parmesan orzo and grilled sourdough on the side.

Time to head to bed to hit the books. I still have more reading to do before we meet again for teacher training tomorrow.

What do you guys have going on this weekend? I’ll be in yoga teacher training. I can’t believe that we’ll be halfway done after this weekend!

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
