South Georgia Weekend

Happy weekend from south Georgia! We are visiting friends from law school that live in Baxley. It’s a really small town (no Starbucks, no yoga studios, no shopping malls) but this is exactly what I need this weekend. We’re just cooking, relaxing and enjoying each others company. It helps that it’s 75 degrees and sunny out. 😉

So I owe you an update on teaching my first yoga class! Overall, it went really well. I only had six people in the class and it was pretty low-key. I took them through a basic power flow and I was surprised by how comfortable I felt leading the class. I definitely need a lot more practice but I would say that my first teaching experience went well. I received good feedback from the members and my group exercise supervisor seemed pleased.

I must share a story though…I got dressed for work at the Y because I had a big meeting at work and needed to get in early. I was showering when I heard someone say, “so what did you think about the new yoga teacher.” I froze and prayed they wouldn’t say anything too mean! I was also kind of happy to have the opportunity to hear their real feedback. I wasn’t about to pop out of the shower and tell them I was in there. They said “it was good but different” and that some of the stuff I did was new and hard but they liked the class. I’ll take that!

Breakfast at my desk pre-meeting.

Overnight oats at my desk in a nearly empty TJ’s sunflower seed butter jar.

I was able to take the afternoon off of work and left around 1:15 so that we could get on the road. I stopped by Berrybrook Farm (for the second day in a row!) to grab a sandwich and a kombucha.

For those of you who asked about kombucha and dealing with the flavor…my favorite brand is Synergy. They make a variety of kombucha with 95% kombucha and 5% fruit juice. That’s a little more palatable than the 100% kombucha. There are culture strands in the drink but it’s normal. Just go with it! It’s a bit of an acquired taste but I love it!

I ate my lunch in the car.

Half of a pimento cheese sandwich with apple slices and carrots from home.

I actually enjoyed the five-hour car ride to Baxley. It was the first opportunity I’d had to slow down all week. It was nice to be stuck in one spot and forced to just sit! I used a Nalgene bottle to roll out my legs in the car. It worked well!

We arrived around 7 p.m. and Cristen and I promptly broke into this.

Cristen had chilled a really nice bottle of French rose. I rarely drink anything other than red wine and I really enjoyed the rose. She had a delicious dinner waiting too.

Goat cheese stuffed chicken rolled in panko. We had mashed potatoes and roasted brussels sprouts and carrots on the side. So good!

I slept for nine-ish glorious hours last night and finally drug myself out of bed at 8:45 to make a pot of oatmeal for Cristen and I. I got distracted by this first.

So ridiculously cute! Camille was enjoying cheese grits for her breakfast. Yum!

Cristen had all of the fun extra ingredients on hand for oatmeal – chia seeds, Crofter’s, peanut butter and Bob’s Red Mill 10-grain cereal.

In the pot for two…
A little less than 1 cup of oats
A little less than 1/4 cup Bob’s Red Mill 10-Grain Cereal
1 cup milk
1 cup water
Dash salt
Sprinkle of chia seeds
Cinnamon
Raisins
1 banana, sliced

Topped with Trader Joe’s peanut butter and Crofter’s.

Camille has been helping me blog this morning.

I maybe kind of want one of these. 😉

Enjoy the weekend! I hope it’s beautiful where you are!

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
