Beauty Rituals

I don’t venture into beauty/fashion topics very often (well, really never) but my brow wax today got me thinking about my “no compromise” beauty rituals.

My #1 must is my monthly brow/lip wax. I started waxing when I was in high school and have been faithful ever since. As someone with dark hair and features, waxing gives a clean look that tweezing can’t provide.

This is an old picture after a brow wax several months ago. (Coincidence that I am also holding my yoga mat? I think not! ;)) Everywhere I have lived I’ve been on a first name, friendly basis with my estheticians. A talented waxer is one of the first people I seek out in a new city. Once I find someone I love, I am extremely loyal. Here in Charlotte, I have been seeing Ariana at Varji & Varji. She’s so talented, beautiful and sweet.

My #2 must is haircuts. Even though I have long hair, I need regular cuts to keep it looking styled and healthy. I used to also be very picky about what products I used on my hair but unfortunately, budget doesn’t allow for $20 shampoo and conditioner right now.

Clearly, I don’t have bangs anymore but this was taken on the day of a haircut last summer. (Hmm…maybe I should cut bangs again? They’re just so annoying during workouts.) I used to be religious about eight-week haircuts but now I stretch it closer to 12-16. Also, cuts only. No color.

One thing that I love but enjoy only as a treat is getting my nails done. I decided a long time ago that I’d rather keep up my brow waxing and do my nails at home. I just can’t afford it all!

What are your no compromise beauty rituals?

Well, that was a fun change of pace! 😛

Breakfast this morning was plain ole’ banana oats.

Oats, sliced banana, chia seeds, cinnamon, raisins, almond milk, pinch salt, water and topped with peanut butter and jam.

I had a waxing appointment at lunch. The spa is in the same shopping center as Earth Fare so I always treat myself to the salad bar after.

Salad, crackers and Honest Tea. I had the Greek  yogurt for my snack later in the afternoon.

My salad was super delicious. Baby spinach, edamame, chick peas, roasted butternut squash salad, mock chicken salad, feta, fresh fruit and more.

I went for a quick 3.5 mile run after work before heading to teach my evening hot vinyasa class. Class went well but I was all confused on my left and rights. I swear, that’s the hardest part about teaching yoga!

I kept dinner simple. Egg scramble with green pepper, tomato, mushrooms, spinach and feta with toast on the side. And then I had leftover strawberry crumble and ice cream. I mean, is it possible to say no to that!?

Finishing my evening tea and off to bed. You might not hear from me tomorrow night because I’m teaching BodyPump and then we’re off to a concert but don’t fret, I’ll be back at ya midday on Friday. I’m taking a half day!!!

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
