Hello from Georgia! Surprise!
I decided Wednesday afternoon that I was going to come visit my grandmother for a few days. I packed the car up at lunch today and hit the road after work. Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate with my travel plans and I battled quite a few severe thunderstorms (hail, cloud to ground lighting, the works!) on the way here.
There is nothing I hate more than driving in rain that’s coming down so hard that you can barely see the road in front of you (and yes, I stopped to take this picture!). Walking in the door and seeing my grandmother’s smiling face made it all worthwhile though! 😛
I left Brandon and Sullie at home to fend for themselves so that my grandmother and I could enjoy some one-on-one time. I think they’ll live although judging by the messages and texts I’ve received already, I think they miss me!
So backing up…I was up extra early this morning to get an ashtanga practice in before work. I knew that I wouldn’t be able to practice again until Sunday so I wanted to get a good one in. It was one of those practices that leaves me feeling totally at peace and blissful for hours after. I needed that.
Breakfast at my desk was overnight oats. Plain Greek yogurt, vanilla soy milk, oats, banana, blueberries, strawberries, chia seeds, cinnamon and dried cranberries. Sunflower seed butter and Crofter’s on top.
I came home for lunch to pack and took this back to eat at work. An awesome salad piled with tons of good toppings and pretzel sticks. The apple (organic pink lady – my favorite) was supposed to me my 4 p.m. car snack but it mysteriously disappeared from the work fridge. 👿
I got on the road around 4:15 but it took me quite a while to get out of Charlotte due to the weather. I was so happy to see this site halfway through my four-hour journey.
I was in need of a pick me up!
Awake tea latte and a petite vanilla scone. I actually really enjoyed the four-hour drive to my grandmother’s (minus the stormy parts). I don’t get a lot of quiet time to sit and “be” and it was nice to just listen to music and think.
I was famished when I arrived and quickly got to work making one of my favorite comfort foods…grilled cheese!
I was interested to discover that my grandmother had purchased Ezekiel bread for me. Believe it or not, this was my first time trying it! This bread is organic and made from sprouted whole grains. That means that it’s flourless and a complete source of protein (due to the mix of sprouted grains and legumes they use to make the bread).
The verdict? I approve. But then again, what’s not to like about bread cooked in real butter and filled with cheese and blackberry jam? I’m not sure that could ever taste bad.
And before I knew it, this materialized in front of me.
Pound cake with fresh peaches and ice cream. Don’t you just love grandmothers? 😉
What is your favorite thing about grandmothers?
Happy Friday!
