Clumsy in the Kitchen

It’s hard to say how many times I’ve burned myself while cooking. Let’s see…there was the time that I took a cookie sheet out of the oven and then reached up to get something out of a cabinet leaving a burn across my belly. Then there was the time that I was heating jam in the microwave for a glaze and the boiling liquid sloshed out onto my hand leaving it blistered and scarred. Oh and last year I grabbed the handle of a skillet that had just come out of a 400 degree oven. That really hurt.

Well, I added another burn to the list this morning as I was preparing brunch. I’m still not really sure how it happened but I was running out of counter space and trying to put down a cookie sheet full of biscuits when I knocked a sharp knife off of the counter. As I was jumping out of the way of the knife, I knocked into the cookie sheet. I reached to catch it and burned my palm…again. It’s blistered and really painful. Bleh.

But at least brunch was good. I made biscuit eggs benedict with homemade buttermilk biscuits, tomato, spinach, a poached egg and hollandaise. Brandon had Bacon in place of the spinach and tomato on his. Cherries and peaches on the side. The peach is local from the farmer’s market yesterday and is the best peach I’ve had so far this year!

And now I’m just repeating to myself “mind over matter…my hand does not hurt” over and over again. Breathe……..am I the only klutz in the kitchen!?

I taught a 90-minute hot class at Y2 this morning. I was thrilled to see Caitlin walk in as class was starting. She sent me an email yesterday afternoon committing to coming to class. She’s gotten out of the yoga groove and is trying to get back to it since she recently recovered from a running injury and is triathlon training. She is a natural yogi and totally rocked class this morning…and hopefully had a little bit of fun judging from her mat dance in revolved triangle while the new Britney song was playing. 😉

Last night Brandon and I attended Yelp’s Passport to Selwyn event. It was an event featuring businesses in a cute retail district and included beer, wine and food samples along with a live band.

The event was free but a donation to Carolina P.A.W.S. was recommended. Carolina P.A.W.S. is a group that rescues abused and homeless animals and places them in homes.

All of the dogs they had there were so cute and sweet. I think I told Brandon at least 20 times that Sullie wanted a friend!

The rest of our Saturday was very relaxing! I spent the afternoon getting a brow wax, shopping and baking.

I had some bananas that were on their last leg and fresh blueberries from the farmer’s market. I remembered seeing a recipe for Blueberry Greek Yogurt Banana Bread on Emily’s blog so I gave it a try. Yum! I’m going to freeze individual slices to have on hand for a quick a quick breakfast/snack option.

Hope it’s been a great weekend! Off to keep myself busy so I forget about my throbbing palm…some serious house cleaning is in order.

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
