Thanks, This and That

To say that I am overwhelmed by the comments on my “Born to Run” post would be an understatement. Seriously. I read each and every one of the comments and will be responding to many of them! I appreciate your advice, suggestions and honesty.

One immediate takeaway is that I will be looking into minimalist running. Brandon has been working out in Vibrams for the past year and really likes them and after hearing so many of your rave about barefoot/minimalist running, I am most definitely open to trying it out. Actually, Matt wrote a guest post on my blog while I was in Jamaica about barefoot running. It seems I need to go back and give that a good read! 😉

And beyond that…all I have to say is that it’s going to be a journey that I’m going into with an open mind and hopeful heart. Through it all, please know that my health and my body will always come first. No race or run is worth doing irreparable damage to my body and I want to feel good and be active for many years to come.

Thank you for your support. It is always tough for me to write the open/honest/vulnerable posts but I’m always glad that I did after I hit publish.

Back to lighter topics…a few randoms to share with you!

Two Delicious Dinners

I’ve cooked dinner the past two nights and they both turned out better than expected!

Brandon actually picked out this vegetarian dish from the most recent issue of Southern Living for dinner on Monday. Cornbread Black-eyed Pea Cakes with Broccoli Slaw and Heirloom Tomatoes. I roasted okra on the side. This was really different but really delicious.

We made a trip to Trader Joe’s tonight and picked p some Mahi. I made Parmesan Panko Crusted Mahi with steamed rice and sauteed pattypan squash and vidalia onions. This turned out so well!

I love cooking!

Guess who volunteered for torture, round two?

You may remember that Brandon attended my yoga class last Saturday and deemed me “a mean yoga teacher” after and has spent the week whining about sore hamstrings.

Well, he volunteered to attend my BodyPump class tonight. This is MAJOR news because it’s only the SECOND BodyPump class of mine that he has ever attended! (He’s not so into group exercise and I get it…)

We’re still teaching BodyPump 78 and oh my gah…my legs. I counted the squats in the squat track…there are over 130!!! Between that and the 6 minute lunge track, my legs feel like jello.

I ate my most favorite lunch ever.

I taught yoga with weights on my lunch break today and was super excited to come back to my desk and eat the best lunch ever. Peanut butter, honey and banana on whole wheat. I cut it into fourths and it seriously made it feel like an even bigger sandwich. Mind tricks. I still wanted a second after I finished this one.

What is your go-to, favorite lunch?

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week! 😀

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
