Tonight I participated in my first panel discussion. Last week I received an email inviting me to be a part of a panel hosted by A Healthier Charlotte to discuss childhood and adult obesity.
I had some major butterflies going into the discussion. My fellow panelists were two physicians and the founder of Girls on the Run. I tried to focus on contributing in a fitness capacity and not speaking outside of my area of expertise.
The really fun part came after the panel discussion. I was asked to film fitness segments where I coached the host, Bobby, through a variety of exercises. They are planning to film a whole series of panels on different topics and they will include one of my fitness segments in each episode. The episode I taped today will go live on Tuesday. I will post the link!
I selected a variety of exercises that hit every major muscle group and were doable for all fitness levels.
I felt much more comfortable filming the fitness segments than the panel. I could talk about squats, lunges and planks all day! 😉
I really enjoyed working with A Healthier Charlotte and I am looking forward to partnering with them on more projects in the future!
I taught BodyPump at 6 a.m. and then headed to the studio immediately after class to get an ashtanga practice in. Breakfast was a cinnamon raisin English muffin before BodyPump and an iced coffee and Greek yogurt with granola and fruit after ashtanga.
I spent most of the day prepping for tonight’s filming. I broke for lunch and made a salad with a Trader Joe’s Masala burger, spinach, peas, avocado, artichoke hearts, apples, dried cranberries and goat cheese. Homemade honey dijon lemon vinaigrette. So good.
And dinner tonight after the shoot was quinoa, salmon with Trader Joe’s Island Soyaki and green beans. Salmon is one of the only “meats” that I truly crave and it was so delicious tonight. It was wild caught Alaskan. I really prefer the flavor and texture of wild caught to farm raised. This healthy and simple dinner was completely satisfying.
Happy Friday!!!!!!

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

I recently traveled to Big Bear Lake, California for the inaugural Big Bear Peaks + Pines three-day stage race hosted by TransRockies Running. This was my third TransRockies event in 12 months (see also Colorado + Moab) and I’m here to tell you that they can do no wrong when it comes to race organization [...]

Happy weekend! Another week in the books! I got three runs in (6.5 miles, 5.5 miles, 5.5 miles) and I have a trail run planned for tomorrow. Total weekly mileage will end up around 30-35 miles depending on if I go for 13 or 17 tomorrow! I’m 16 weeks out from the Golden Ultra so [...]

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
