It’s freezing here and I hate being cold.
18 degrees tonight? Really? I know for some of you this forecast probably looks rather balmy but for my Georgia born and hot yoga loving body this is unacceptable. I much prefer 100 degree southern summer days. I would rather sweat than shiver. You get the point. 😉
My stay warm strategy involves bundling up in as many clothes possible and consuming lots of hot food and beverages. I decked myself out in this ensemble at 6 a.m. this morning and grabbed Starbucks on my way to teach at Charlotte Athletic Club. My scarf and boots have not left my body today.
The yoga room at CAC is freezing sometimes. The temperature in the gym is kept at 68 degrees but this morning the yoga room was even colder due to the chilly, windy conditions outside and the floor to ceiling windows. Even with the space heaters blazing, we were still shivering. I actually ended up teaching in my boots because my feet were so cold. I made sure to be a little more aggressive with the flow and add in extra vinyasas to help my yogis build internal heat. They were troopers and happy at the end of class!
I grabbed an egg and cheese bagel on my way home from class. And another coffee which turned out to be a bad idea. It left me feeling kind of “ick” but didn’t stop me from getting back in bed (in my scarf and jacket) and taking a quick nap.
I spent the afternoon teaching another class, a private and working out. And now I am about to demolish some pizza. I should probably eat a salad first given that it’s been a couple days since anything green and not carb-based has entered my body!
Cold weather…love it or hate it? Cold yoga…love it or like to sweat?
On a positive note, one of the benefits of living in the South is that it’s supposed to be 65 degrees again by Saturday. 😉

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

I recently traveled to Big Bear Lake, California for the inaugural Big Bear Peaks + Pines three-day stage race hosted by TransRockies Running. This was my third TransRockies event in 12 months (see also Colorado + Moab) and I’m here to tell you that they can do no wrong when it comes to race organization [...]

Happy weekend! Another week in the books! I got three runs in (6.5 miles, 5.5 miles, 5.5 miles) and I have a trail run planned for tomorrow. Total weekly mileage will end up around 30-35 miles depending on if I go for 13 or 17 tomorrow! I’m 16 weeks out from the Golden Ultra so [...]

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
