The First Friday

Good morning and happy first Friday of 2012. I don’t know about you but I am relieved that it’s Friday and that the week is wrapping up. Sometimes I feel like there is so much pressure at the start of a new year to make these big statements about what kind of year it is going to be and what your goals for it are. Truthfully, 2011 was such a monumental year for me that I feel a little lost on what to expect out of 2012. And that’s okay.

Sometimes it’s perfectly acceptable to take things day by day. I have been speaking in class this week about setting intentions daily. Reevaluating where you are on your desired path daily and making corrections/modifications as necessary. Knowing that you have control over your life and the way you live each day.

I am also feeling a little reflective on this Friday because there is a new teacher training group starting tonight at the studio. Quite a few of my friends and students are participating and while I am so excited about the amazing journey they are about to embark on, I am also envious on some level. Part of me wishes that I could relive the experience knowing what I know now…if that makes any sense. It has been such a unique and meaningful opportunity to speak with some of my students about their interest in teacher training. I have loved watching them grow in their practice and I can’t wait to see what waits for them on the other side of teacher training.

So, it’s been a while since I’ve shared any eats or workouts. (Because they haven’t been very exciting.)

I taught BodyPump last night and we had a packed class. It was so much fun. My co-instructor Andre and I ended up teaching a pretty tough class and I am so feeling it this morning. I taught an insane lunge track and my legs are screaming. Ouch. I had a few minutes to kill before class so I ran for 20 minutes on the treadmill. I actually really like to do a little bit of cardio before strength training to get the blood flowing and to start sweating.

Dinner of millet topped with roasted sweet potatoes and goat cheese with a salad. I am on a big kick right now of pairing sweet potatoes or butternut squash with goat cheese.

Breakfast this morning was Greek yogurt and granola in a jar. I really wanted overnight oats but did not possess the patience to wait 30 minutes to eat my breakfast.

Plain Greek yogurt, bananas, chia seeds, dried cranberries, TJs pumpkin butter and granola in a nearly empty TJs peanut butter jar.

And that’s all I’ve got for you. I have about a million emails to respond to before running errands and teaching this afternoon. Hope this first Friday of 2012 is a good one. Remember, each day provides a new start and the opportunity to decide how you are going to live it.

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
