My weekend ended with a 9 p.m. bedtime on Sunday. I don’t really know how to describe it but I’m just kind of tired and feel like I can’t get caught up. I got enough sleep over the weekend but my body has been feeling worn out and sore. I think a lot of it has to do with the amount of strength workouts I did last week (BodyPump x2, CrossFit, Fight Gone Mad) coupled with still adjusting to my new routine/schedule.
In related news, I have decided to give up my Monday 6 a.m. BodyPump class. I have been teaching this time slot for two and a half years and I need a break from it so in a few weeks another instructor will be taking over. 6 a.m. BodyPump, working full-time again and teaching a yoga class after work is just too much for a Monday. I would like a departure from the 13-hour days.
Enough whining. I didn’t mean for that to happen! Here are some scenes from the weekend.
Saturday started at Metro to get some pictures of our special St. Patrick’s Day CrossFit WOD. It was “Tabata Something Else” – Complete 32 intervals of 20 seconds of work followed by ten seconds of rest where the first 8 intervals are pull-ups, the second 8 are push-ups, the third 8 intervals are sit-ups, and finally, the last 8 intervals are squats. There is no rest between exercises. Score is total reps completed.
We had St. Patrick’s Day decorations, refreshments and Guiness for the highest scoring member. We had a great turnout and the energy was amazing. I have to admit that I was happy to be taking photos and not doing the workout! My workout was a hot vinyasa yoga class after I left Metro.
Post-yoga I hit up the farmer’s market and then went on a cleaning extravaganza. My reward for all the cleaning was baking strawberry cupcakes with strawberry buttercream. This is my favorite cake flavor ever!
Saturday night dinner was grilled corvina, grilled asparagus and Trader Joe’s Harvest Grains mix with sautéed grape tomatoes mixed in. If you haven’t tried corvina yet, you must! It’s a thick, flaky and mild white fish with a flavor/texture similar to grouper/snapper. It’s known as “California Sea Bass.” It holds up great on the grill.
I ate this bowl of plain Greek yogurt with bananas and berries before teaching my Sunday morning hot class at Y2 (where the topic was kindness in case you missed it).
I had brunch with some yoga friends after class. I had florentine benedict with fruit. The benedict was just okay because the eggs were overcooked. I like the yolks runny and these were totally solid.
The rest of my Sunday was spent running and yogaing. I ran an easy three and then went to a yoga for runners class at YogaFlex. One of my students invited me to join her for class and dinner to talk about careers in fitness. The yoga for runners class was exactly what my sore body needed. It was slow and involved some good stretching and foam rolling! I felt totally relaxed after class.
We grabbed dinner at Newk’s after class. It was a beautiful evening so we sat outside and talked until after dark! My favorite things about Newk’s is that they give you reusable plastic cups for your drinks and free breadsticks that are the perfect little snack while you’re waiting on your food.
I went with the Newk’s Favorite salad which was mixed greens, grilled chicken breast, gorgonzola cheese, dried cranberries, grapes, artichoke hearts, pecans and croutons with a sherry vinaigrette.
And then came home and ate a cupcake before my early bedtime. Hope it was a great weekend for you!
Did anyone race this weekend? How did you do? Judging from my Twitter and Facebook feeds, race season is here in full force.
