The Other Side

It is an absolutely perfect day. It’s 70 degrees, the humidity is low and there’s nothing but blue sky. I woke up at 7 a.m., ate a few bites of a cupcake, played on my computer in bed for a while and then went back to sleep with the windows open and sunlight streaming in.

Sullie thought hanging out in bed was a good plan too but she decided to play rather than nap. I really wanted to get up and go to yoga because I haven’t been able to practice all week but I needed some quiet time and breathing room.

When I finally made it out of bed I had toast with egg, tomato and cheddar. Then I was still hungry and ate a banana coconut muffin with peanut butter and pumpkin butter.

It feels good that it’s Saturday. The past few weeks have been a whirlwind with the opening of the new gym but I’ve made it to the other side. We wrapped up a successful preview week with packed classes with our grand opening party last night. Also, I finally got the Metro CrossFit website launched yesterday. I’ve been working on it for weeks!

I was blown away by how many members and friends of the gym came out to celebrate with us. We finally got a lot of the finishing touches done around the gym yesterday – hanging artwork, banners, signs, bathroom accessories, etc. so it looked amazing for the party. I am going to do a video tour so you can see it all next week.

One guess on who was in charge of the catering for the party. Passion Food Catering did an hors d’oeuvre reception and the food was incredible. They focus on shopping the markets and developing menus based on what’s local/in season. The chef also loves to be challenged so when I asked her for a few Paleo options, she enthusiastically agreed. I received rave reviews on the food all night.

We are all exhausted from preview week but there was such an attitude of happiness and gratitude last night. Personally, I pinch myself every day and wonder how I ended up with such an amazing job where I work with an incredible team that shares my sentiments. It’s a very cool thing to be a part of. I know I’ve talked about the gym a lot the past couple of weeks but I really want to share my career journey with you all and show you how I’m trying to figure out the work/life balance. It should be interesting to see how everything shakes out this summer as I get into more of a routine.

I have to go run a 5K with 10 obstacles and a mud pit now. I am excited about the race because it’s such a beautiful day but I sure wish it wasn’t happening the day after such a crazy week. I am really feeling more like a massage and laying by the pool! 😉

Off to get muddy! Have a fabulous Saturday!

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
