Shifting Gears

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the kind words about my post yesterday. I spent a lot longer on the post than I usually do.  I kept going back and editing it and I considered not publishing it at all. When I did publish it, I immediately wanted to take it down. It can be really difficult for me to open up and allow myself to be vulnerable. Again, the mentality of “I’ve got this. I’m good.” Which is sometimes just exhausting. So thank you again for supporting me.

For those of you who were wondering, yes, the post titled was inspired by one Mr. John Mayer.

I used to love JohnMayer. I’m kind of embarrassed to admit how much. His music was one of my favorites to listen to when I was running while I was in college. I came up with the idea for the post when I was running on Monday. So it’s only fair that John inspired the post title.

On another note, I can’t believe how many NYC-area readers I have. I think I could go couch surfing and stay for a week and have dinner dates and running partners every day! We’re gonna make this happen!

Speaking of running, I did that again this morning and it was perfect. I haven’t CrossFitted since last Friday. Yoga and running are working right now. It’s so funny how what feels good to my body changes so much from week to week. I think so much of it has to do with what kind of mental release I need too. Currently, the solidarity of running and centering of yoga is appealing.

What you see here is the most delicious breakfast ever. I’d been craving a bagel all week so I gave in today and got an egg and cheddar on whole wheat.

My lunch the past two days has featured leftovers from Sunday night’s dinner. I layered spinach, quinoa and lentils and tofu and eggplant in a bowl and topped it with tomatoes, avocado, hummus and greek yogurt. Blue corn chips on the side for dipping. I love these big bowls for lunch. So nice to give the open faced sandwiches a break!

It was a long day. I went out to dinner with some of my co-workers at Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar. I started out with a Dogfish 60-Minute IPA. One of my favorite go-to IPAs. We also shared an order of fried pickles.

I ordered the Frenchie with no bun and a side salad. It’s a turkey burger topped with brie, green apples and bacon. I actually liked it better without the bun because it was so cheesy and bacony. I had a build-your-own side salad with mixed greens, tomatoes, mushrooms, corn, broccoli, mandarin oranges, feta and walnuts with honey mustard. I love that Bad Daddy’s slightly cooks some of their salad toppings so that the corn, mushrooms and broccoli were not raw but a little tender. Love this place!

I just took a hot shower (nightly wind-down ritual) and I’m going to relax a bit before bed.

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
