The Kitchen Sink

Happy weekend! I am NOT happy right now given that the Dawgs just lost to Alabama. Such a good game but so sad that we will not be heading to the national championship.

Let’s focus on other things, okay?

I was in the mood for a vegetarian dinner last night so I baked tofu, roasted green beans and mushrooms with balsamic and cooked some quinoa and lentils on the side. I gave it all a sprinkle of goat cheese and it was exactly what I wanted.

I had to work at Metro CrossFit this morning so I packed breakfast to take to the gym. Overnight oats with banana, apple, museli, plain greek yogurt, silk nog, chia seeds, cinnamon and dried cranberries. Topped with apple butter and peanut butter.

I was planning on doing Metro’s workout of the day which was all bodyweight stuff like running, pullups, pushups and squats until I got talked into doing the main site (crossfit.com) workout with some of the coaches from our gym in between classes. We called it “The Kitchen Sink/Every CrossFit Exercise” workout. It was ridiculous! Look how much equipment it took us to even set up.

That makes for a total of 400 reps. Insanity.

My low back and right hip have been majorly wonky lately so I greatly modified the workout. For example, I did box dips instead of ring dips and I used a 55# bar for all of the exercises (even the deadlifts and back squats which made me feel like a baby) but it was still a fun and challenging WOD.

Due to my lighter weight selection I was able to keep up with the boys pretty well. I was proud of my effort and finished in 26:43.

This was definitely one of those workouts that I would have never done on my own but actually had a ton of fun doing with my fellow coaches!

I was more than ready for lunch when I arrived home. I made a big bowl using last night’s leftovers. A bed of mixed greens topped with the quinoa/lentil mix, green beans, tofu, sundried tomatoes, goat cheese, greek yogurt and hummus.

And then I spent my afternoon blowing leaves. It took me 10 minutes just to get the blower cranked and I swear it was a better workout than the WOD. I seriously may be more sore from repeatedly pulling the cord to get it started after nine months in hibernation than I will be from pullups. Fun times in home ownership.

I needed some comfort food after the Dawgs loss so I had low-carb (no noodle, lots of meat and veggie) lasagna.

Off to make a playlist for my yoga class tomorrow morning!

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
