A Workout To Warm You Up

Watch out.

Apparently, snow is imminent. What our local weather celeb says is pretty much considered word of god around here and he’s on board with the snow forecast. I believe this because all of my friends in Alabama are posting snow pictures on Facebook. When it actually snow in Birmingham, there’s a good chance that the forecasted snow will make it here too. It’s due to arrive in Charlotte sometime after 6 p.m. This is what happens in the south when it snows (or if there’s eve a chance)…everyone freaks out, buys all the bread and milk, schools and businesses close before the snow even arrives and when the snow does arrive, those that venture out into it ram their cars into each other. It’s quite entertaining, really.

This is basically what life has looked like around here for four days. My long-time PT client posted on Facebook today that she was tired of living in the land of no sun so I used that as inspiration to put together a little, “run from the snow” workout for her.

It’s a chipper! Chippers are workouts where you “chip away” at large numbers of reps of each exercise before moving to the next. The rep scheme decreases as you go along but your body fatigues so 30 push ups feel as hard as 90 squats. This is a long workout. It should take you anywhere from 30-45 minutes.

My client had a love/hate relationship with this one. I kept reminding her how good she would feel when it was done and she admitted that I was right as collapsed onto her foam roller at the end. I’m not going to lie, this one is tough and will leave you with serious jello legs. Oh, and I should mention that she started with a 500 meter row and then intervals of rowing sprints that totaled another 1,000 meters.

In other exciting news, my new area for the living room rug finally came and I love it! I ordered it from Rugs USA a few weeks ago and have been anxiously awaiting its arrival. My designer friend turned me on to the site and they have some really cool styles and run great sales. They also offer free shipping. I’m really pleased with the quality of the rug for the price I paid and will be using them for some other rugs I need for around the house.

You should have seen me moving furniture and rolling this thing out at 10:30 last night. I broke a sweat but I was determined to get it set up. I couldn’t stand to keep it all wrapped up!

Have a good day! Stay warm!!!

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
