For the past couple of months I have been seeing all of these delicious looking food pics from local restaurants pop up in my Twitter and Facebook feeds with the tag #epiceaters. A group of girls (most of who I know in real life via blogs/social media) formed what I like to call and “eating club” and are calling themselves epic eaters. They meet up at local restaurants to enjoy good food and good company. I have pretty much been drooling over their photos and mentioned to my friend Jen that I would love an invite to the group and just like that I started receiving e-mails about dinners, brunches, potlucks and more. I feel pretty lucky since it’s not often that you find cool girls who also like to eat (I mean really, no…I don’t want to “share” an appetizer for dinner).
My first epic eaters gathering was a potluck at Diana’s house. Diana is currently in the midst of an eat in month challenge so she graciously offered to host all of us foodies for dinner on Sunday evening. I LOVE potlucks…especially with fellow foodies.
I debated what to bring and even recruited your help on Facebook to help me decide between chocolate dessert or savory scone. Well, I went with savory scones and they were so delicious! I was so happy with how they turned out. These are feta, chive, black pepper and sea salt scones and are topped with an egg wash, smoked paprika and more salt and pepper. I used this recipe from Joy the Baker and can’t recommend it enough. I will definitely be repeating it and trying different variations.
Brittney made pumpkin mac and cheese from Eat, Live, Run.
Erin made a kale and apple salad with bacon that was to die for.
Kseniya brought Russian dumplings with two different preparations. Traditional with butter and sour cream and Asian style with soy sauce and pepper sauce.
Here’s my plate with the items listed above along with Diana’s filipino adobo pork and rice and Jen’s cheese and crackers. Quite a spread! I loved the diversity!
We were entertained by Diana’s well-trained Corgi, Bailey, who chilled on his bed with his lion while we were eating and then brought Diana his food dish when it was time for his own. Too cute.
Dion told us she was bringing a surprise drink that wasn’t liquid. We all laughed when she pulled a fishbowl jello shot out of the fridge. Can we take a moment to appreciate the scuba guy? Hilarious.
Spoons up. Ready to dig in.
I dipped my spoon in the fishbowl a couple of times. Jello shots for a Sunday night girl’s dinner (I don’t even remember the last time I had one!)? I knew I liked these ladies! 😉
We finished up the evening with an apple and cranberry crisp that Diana baked. We’re thinking we will make these dinners a monthly thing and stay tuned for upcoming restaurant trips. So glad I invited my way into this group! 🙂
Do you like potlucks? Do you have any go-to dishes? (And does anyone else struggle as much as I do when deciding what to bring!?)
