I’m not even a huge Beyonce fan and I have to say that her halftime performance was pretty fierce. I am parked on the couch under a blanket with a box of tissues. I have an annoying cold that is causing my nose to steadily stream. How is it possible for the human body to be so snotty? I haven’t felt terrible this weekend and was still able to teach yoga and train my clients but I had no energy to workout so Saturday was a rest day and today I stayed at the gym after training my client and rowed 500 meters to warm up and then started a WOD. I proceeded to make it all of 5 double unders in before bailing on the workout and going home. I usually try to workout with mild colds but my body is telling me rest, rest, rest right now.
I have always been the first to admit that I function at a ridiculously high level. I stay busy and fill my plate up with things I love to do. I have really focused on dialing back the plate filling over the last year but last week was really busy and stressful and left me physically and mentally exhausted, thus the reason I ended up sick. I recognized that I needed to give myself a break this weekend. I am forever telling my yoga students that they have to take care of themselves before they can take care of anyone else and be all the want to be and do all they want to do. Practice what you preach.
And now, the weekend in photos.
Saturday lunch. Still loving this sandwich combo.
Saturday snack. Does anyone else like to eat cottage cheese as a dip?
Yoga. I taught two hot classes (the only time my nose wasn’t a fountain…I guess the heat helped dry me out) and did a private with my friends. They had a fun list of poses they wanted to work on. I warned them I was germy but they love me anyway.
Barbecue chicken flatbread for dinner Saturday.
Still craving smoothies for breakfast.
Whole Foods salad bar extravaganza. Beating sickness with veggies and kombucha.
Food prep for the week. Quinoa and green lentils cooked with veggie broth.
Carrot, butternut and ginger soup. I will post the recipe in the next couple of days. Sooooo good and soooo healthy! I think carrot ginger is my favorite kind of soup.
Grilled cheese with rosemary olive oil bread and carrot ginger soup for dinner tonight. Perfect comfort food for my stuffy nose.
A thought to start your new week. Hope it’s been a wonderful weekend.
