It’s been a rainy, cool weekend and that has felt pretty perfect for me. I have spent a lot of time in the yoga studio, coaching CrossFit and hibernating at home.
On Friday afternoon I got an SOS request to help out with the yoga teacher trainees at the studio. I led them through their evening practice and it was truly an honor and a special opportunity for me. I shared with them before class that I stood in that exact same spot two years ago and taught my first class ever at the studio to my fellow teacher trainees.
This is the picture I took two years ago while I taught my first class. I blogged about the experience but to sum it up, my nerves were out of control! I felt totally out of my element and not myself at all.
Fast forward to two years later and I’ve taught over 750 yoga classes and I can not only confidently lead a yoga class like it’s something I have been doing forever but when I’m with my classes I feel so happy and at ease. Every time I walk into the room to teach and see that people actually showed up to let me guide them through practice, I am incredibly humbled and grateful. I can’t believe how much teaching and yoga have changed for me in just two short years. I cannot wait to see what unfolds as my yoga journey continues.
I showered at the studio after teaching and carpooled to Caitlin’s surprise birthday party with Katie. I nearly died in the locker room when I received this text from her. I literally thought the cats were coming to the party with us. Wouldn’t put it past her. 😉 😛
I didn’t take any photos at the party but it was really great to catch up with some of the girls (and guys). I ate a strange assortment of foods for dinner including pepperoni pizza, tortilla chips, hummus, french fries and key lime pie.
I was up early on Saturday morning to go hold down the fort at Metro CrossFit. I had a gluten-free toaster waffle with peanut butter, honey and banana before I left for the gym. Sidenote, Trader Joe’s gulten-free waffles are the best. Better than Van’s.
I worked the front desk, did the WOD on a break between classes and coached the 10 a.m. class. The WOD was pretty brutal…
5 RFT
400 meter run
30 back squats (135/85)
I modified it by only using a 65# bar and doing 15 squats and 15 push ups every round (because I wanted to do some upper body too) and it wasn’t that bad but those who did all 30 squats were dying. Heather (from Multiply Delicious) in the photo above RX’d the WOD and did all the squats at 85#. She is my hero.
I headed over to the studio after I closed the gym and taught my 12:30 p.m. hot class. I had a serious craving for a turkey sandwich on sourdough as I was driving home so I swung by the store to get the necessary ingredients. Someone asked in the comments a couple days ago why I didn’t eat a bun with my burger when I was out the other night. There is no rhyme or reason to my gluten v. no gluten intake. In general, I would say that I eat far less bread than I used to but I don’t avoid it by any means. I know it makes no sense…
I stayed at home for a few hours on Saturday afternoon cleaning and catching up on household stuff before going back to the studio to practice. I hadn’t taken a class since Monday and I needed it. I spent Saturday night on the couch with wine, fish tacos in lettuce wraps and black beans and rice. Perfect.
More weekend coming soon. Sunday involved lots of baking!
