Hush Puppy Me

Much like the rest of the summer, Saturday was a cloudy day. My parents said it’s rained almost every day at the beach just like it has in Charlotte. I hung out on the balcony in the morning then went to the farmers market with my parents to get some tomatoes. We swung by Starbucks for a smoothie and the donut shop for a cake donut on the way!

I came home and went for a walk with my dad and their golden Sam before hitting the gym for a quick workout. I did four rounds of the following…

20 Sit Ups
15 Dumbbell Thrusters (20#)
10 Burpees
400 Meter Run

I was crazy sweaty afterwards.

The weather finally cleared up enough to hit the beach but it was overcast.

It wasn’t great weather for getting sun but it was perfect for napping and reading. We made it about two and a half hours before it started to drizzle. I came in and worked on a big personal project for a little while before getting ready for dinner.

We went into Destin for dinner at the Louisiana Lagniappe. For the total story on my history with this restaurant read this post but to sum it up, I’ve been eating here for probably 20 years! (Wow, that just made me feel old!)

Hush puppy perfection. I swear, the best thing about eating out at the beach isn’t fresh seafood but rather hush puppies!

I ordered the Bayou Grouper for dinner which is pan sauteed fresh gulf grouper topped with jumbo lump crabmeat and jumbo shrimp and finished with meuniere sauce. All of the entrees are served with their house twice baked potato. This fish was AMAZING and I ate every bite!

I’m heading home later today but I’m so happy that I was able to make a quick getaway to visit my parents in a place I love so much! My heart needed this badly!

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
