I cannot believe that it is already August…and that we haven’t had a 100+ degree here in North Carolina. For whatever reason 2012 seemed to move at a snail’s pace but 2013 is absolutely flying by. Here are a few things that are giving me a sweet start to my August.
Salads. This summer has been all about salads and smoothies for me. I crave smoothies in the morning and salads at lunch. I picked this one up from Trader Joes and it had spinach, tomatoes, chick peas, pumpkin seeds, quinoa, edamame and dried cranberries with carrot sesame dressing.
And today’s lunch salad (check out the photo quality difference between iPhone and DSLR!) was mixed greens, arugula, cucumbers, beets, tomatoes, oranges, hardboiled egg, pecans, dried cranberries and goat cheese.
Evening walks with Sullie. I am not usually a huge fan of walking unless it has a purpose (like exercising Sullie) but during the summer it feels so good to go out just as it starts to get dark for a long walk. I was so happy that Sullie finally felt up to it last night and was her normal energetic self!
Kale chips! Bonus: served with a burger.
Surprises on my doorstep…especially of the sweet variety!
Harvard Sweet Boutique was so kind to send me a box of cookies and brownies to sample and I’ve slowly been taste testing my way through the goods.
They provided a mix of traditional and gluten free cookies and brownies. My most favorite thing in the box was the Vanilla Sea Salt Caramel Brownie but the Gluten-Free Chocolate Fudge Brownies were pretty amazing too.
Harvard Sweet Boutique is based in Hudson, Massachusetts. They have a retail store but also do a ton of Internet gift business. I was happy to hear that everything is made to order using natural ingredients. My box arrived safely in a bubble wrap envelope and everything was packaged beautifully. It was such a treat to receive this cute box of sweets! I always like to give a shout out when business are female owned and Harvard Sweet Boutique is! Sue George started the business in 2007. They can customize orders for any occasion/holiday and ship anywhere in the country so be sure to check them out next time you want to send someone something special. I think this would be an awesome alternative to flowers! 🙂
What’s been sweetening up your summer?
