Hi everyone! I’m currently on my way back to the US after a long weekend in Mexico. I think this was the longest break I’ve had from blogging (three days) since I started this blog. I knew going into the weekend that the hotel had WiFi in the lobby but not the rooms and I didn’t have time to prepare posts ahead of time so I just decided to take a blogging break. Not gonna lie, it was pretty nice to totally disconnect.
This trip was booked pretty last minute which was actually awesome because there wasn’t a lot of build up to it. It was kind work, work, work and then throw everything in a bag and leave. Travel was seamless leaving Charlotte on Friday morning. Breezed right through the airport, picked up Jamba Juice and a coffee and no delays taking off.
We are so lucky in Charlotte that US Airways offers a ton of direct flights to Mexico and the Caribbean. Our flight left Charlotte at 9:30 a.m. and we arrived in Cancun at 11:40 a.m. local time (one hour behind).
I’ll write more about my travel experience later but the Cancun airport was extremely easy to navigate and get in and out of. I loved the Corona tower when we touched down.
The transfer from the airport to the hotel in Puerto Moreles (just south of Cancun) was under 30 minutes and we were at the hotel by 12:30 p.m. The room wasn’t ready yet (which I anticipated from reading reviews online) so we grabbed lunch while we waited.
And did a dessert sampler that unfortunately, as I expected, looked pretty but tasted like nothing.
The room was ready after lunch and after throwing bags down and a quick change we hit the beach.
I’ve vacationed in the Caribbean many times but this was my first trip to Mexico. I was excited to see what the Yucatan Peninsula was all about. Again, I’ll post a bigger review about the resort, the area and the beaches later. It was pretty sweet to leave Charlotte at 9:30 a.m. and be on the beach in Mexico by 2 p.m.
After beaching I got showered and wandered around the resort for a bit before dinner.
I was excited to find a tequila tasting in the lobby.
Speaking of the lobby…it was so modern and loungy. It was one of my favorite features of the resort. It felt like a giant W hotel lobby.
Dinner the first night in one of the resort restaurants.
Salmon, steak and pineapple skewer with veggies and rice.
And another pretty but relatively bland dessert sampling. After dinner I was wiped out from a long week of work and a long day of travel so I promptly passed out.
Okay, we’re in bumpy air and getting ready to land so I’m going to shut down but I’ll be back with a recap of the rest of my weekend and a review of the resort over the next few days.
