I can’t say that this was a fun weekend but it was necessary. Other than a work happy hour on Friday, I had zero social engagements to distract me from the great purge of 2014. I fully own that I had a mini-meltdown last night while I was standing in the middle of the bedroom with all the contents of my closet covering every surface of the room. It was not exactly my most memorable or enjoyable Super Bowl Sunday experience. I would have much rather have been eating chips and dip and watching commercials. 😛
Here are a few photo highlights from the weekend…
Friday night community happy hour for Metro CrossFit. So nice to see everyone out of the gym!
Before starting the cleaning extravaganza and purge on Saturday, I taught the lovely yogis at Om Yoga like I do every Saturday morning. They are wonderful! Watch out for a class pass giveaway coming up soon!
I spent the rest of Saturday cleaning, doing laundry and purging the guest room. I shared those entertaining scenes with you on Saturday night. After hours of work and a clean guest bedroom, I decided I had earned dinner out.
Stopped by Good Food on Montford but as expected, they were on a 90 minute wait so hit up another favorite instead, Rooster’s in South Park. They have a pretty extensive selection of wines from Spain and France so I asked the manager for a suggestion under $40. This is one of my favorite ways to discover new wines. I love it when restaurants have wine lists full of things I’ve never tried. I was thrilled when he pointed me towards this bottle of Tempranillo that was priced at just $30 and recently won some awards and high ratings. He told me they would be raising the price on it significantly on Monday.
As usual, the food at Rooster’s was incredible. I was seated at the counter overlooking the open kitchen. This has always been one of my favorite seats in any restaurant with an open layout. It’s so entertaining to watch all the food being prepared. The grilled duck breast was spot on. I like to order things when I eat out that I don’t regularly make at home. Duck is something I have only ever tried once at home and it wasn’t exactly a success.
I went with two of their nightly specials for side items. This broccoli fritto was very lightly fried and served with a spicy dipping sauce. This stuff was ADDICTIVE!
And roasted parsnips with a light drizzle of local honey. If you’ve never tried parsnips, I can’t recommend them enough. They look like white carrots but taste slightly sweet when cooked with a little bit of a woody, earthy, spicy flavor. They’re somewhat similar to turnips but less peppery.
And a slice of coconut cake to wrap up the evening. I just love Rooster’s so much for their simple, local, seasonal food that’s prepared so well + an inviting ambiance with great service. Definitely one of my top spots in Charlotte!
That was a pretty good break from/reward for the purge, huh? My belly was so happy after the meal.
I taught and took yoga Sunday and then tackled the master closet. I started with this.
And four hours later, ended with this. It’s not 100% there yet but I’m getting a lot closer! I probably got rid of at least 30 percent of the clothes in this closet with an embarrassing amount of it being from college and right after.
A few of the biggest things I did to help included…
– Letting go of a lot of professional clothing. I keep hanging onto them thinking that I’m going to wear them but I haven’t put on a suit or a pair of slacks and a button down since my last day in advertising two and a half years ago. I’ve finally whittled it down to keeping just two basic suits and let the rest go.
– Moving my lululemon pants and shorts onto a shelf in the closet. The lululemon drawer in my dresser was OVERFLOWING to the point of not being able to close it. The closet reorganization freed up the space for me to store the pants and shorts on a shelf in the closet instead which is awesome!
– Moving my scarfs out of a Tupperware drawer and onto a shelf. As you may have noticed, I wear scarfs allllll the time. Until yesterday, I had been storing them in a Tupperware drawer that was always open with all the scarfs spilling out. I left all of my hats, mittens, headbands, etc in the drawer but moved the scarfs to a shelf where they’re more accessible and organized.
This is what my hallway currently looks like. And thanks to everyone for the donation suggestions. I am going to take everything to Crisis Assistance in Charlotte instead of Goodwill!
So that was my super fun weekend! I have to admit that it feels really, really good to get all of this stuff done!
Did you watch the Super Bowl or do something else?
Have you tried parsnips? Love or leave?
