Vacation Week Workouts

Hi! I’m home! I kind of decided to take a break with the blogging for the last few days of vacation and focus on writing during my limited working hours and soaking up the experience the remainder of the time. There was a moment yesterday where I thought “I could blog or I could take a nap.” Annnddd I took a nap.

I just got home about an hour ago and heated up some lentil soup for dinner while I catch up on Scandal. (So excited it’s back on!!!) Let me catch you up on my vacation week workouts.

I was on a yoga retreat so clearly the workouts are yoga heavy but I got in a good amount of circuit, HIIT and cardio workouts as well. I’ve blogged about this several times before before but I always try workout on beach vacations. This workout week is a little heavier than a typical vacation workout week because a) it was a yoga retreat with two classes a day and b) I have photo shoots coming up very soon for my book.

Monday

1 evening yoga practice on the pier (skipped the AM practice) + 3 mile treadmill run & strength circuit

10 dumbbell thrusters
10 dumbbell bent over rows
10 dumbbell chest flies
10 bench reverse crunches
10 dumbbell lunges (each side)

This was the only time during the week that I picked up a weight but I was sore from the chest flies for two days!

Tuesday

PM yoga practice + AM cardio strength circuit (I will post this soon, it was good!)

I taught the AM practice so I was only able to take the PM but it was all good. I swear, I get just as much out of teaching from a mental perspective as I do taking sometimes.

Wednesday

PM yoga practice on the pier (skipped the AM)

I needed a light day after strength/running on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. I spent the AM yoga practice laying in a meditative savasana state on my mat soaking up the breeze and the sunshine while everyone else yogaed! 🙂

Thursday

PM yoga practice + HIIT circuit

This was my favorite workout of the week. After spending the morning writing, teaching the AM yoga class, eating breakfast and blogging it was almost noon and I just wanted to be outside and at the beach but I needed to move…so I took my workout outside and did a super quick HIIT circuit where I ran from one end of the resort to the other (400 meters-ish) and at the end of each run I did jumping jacks, mountain climbers, squats, lunges and push ups. I did six rounds and was sweaty and sun kissed. Perfect travel workout!

Friday

AM + PM yoga practice + 3 mile treadmill run

Saturday

AM + PM yoga practice

Last day of the retreat and all I wanted to do was soak up every last minute. I had two great practices.

Sunday

REST

Necessary after that week of activity! There was debate over squeezing in cardio before leaving but breakfast and one last rum drink by the pool won. 😉

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Happy weekend! Another week in the books! I got three runs in (6.5 miles, 5.5 miles, 5.5 miles) and I have a trail run planned for tomorrow. Total weekly mileage will end up around 30-35 miles depending on if I go for 13 or 17 tomorrow! I’m 16 weeks out from the Golden Ultra so [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
