Weekend: Massages, Sweets & Shopping

Happy Father’s Day! I’m doing this weekend a little backwards by spending it with my mom but we did call my dad today to say hi and wish him a happy day! Fun fact, I was born on Father’s Day so I always joke with my dad that I was the ultimate gift. I can never top that. 😉

It’s been a totally relaxing weekend which has been really nice and just what I needed.

Last night I treated my mom and myself to a 60-minute massage at Urbana. It had been many years since her last massage and she loved and was able to totally relax which made me happy! My therapist was great and did some much needed deep work on me. So much so that I had a sore throat after the massage. I guess I had a lot of toxins to release!

After the massage we went to Illios Noche for dinner. We were able to be seated on the patio and it was the most perfect night for dining out. They also had live music which made for lovely ambiance. I have been wanting to try this recipe for months and it totally met my expectations. It’s owned by the same restaurant group as Nolen Kitchen, which I frequent often (that’s where I get the breakfast pita for brunch all the time). I started out with the roasted red pepper and feta spread with pita.

The dinner menu was incredible with so many delicious options but last night I wanted something light so I ordered the grape and fennel salad with grilled salmon. The salad featured spinach, shaved fennel, goat cheese, grapes, figs and a champagne vinaigrette.

I taught yoga this morning and then came home to make brunch. I went with an open faced egg sandwich on honey whole wheat with avocado, turkey bacon, basil mayo and colby jack. I had sliced tomatoes and fresh fruit on the side.

Then it was off to Nordstrom Rack. (My favorite store ever!) My mom treated me to these fun wedges for my birthday. They’re super light weight and comfortable.

And this Max Studio dress. It was marked down to $40 from over $100! You can’t really tell on the hanger but it’s fitted and the skirt is fun and a little twirly at the end. I’ll share a pic when I wear it. Gotta love a good white summer dress.

And I couldn’t resist switching out my phone cover for this cheerful design.

After shopping we needed to refuel so I took my mom for her first Amelie’s experience. It’s a 24-hour French bakery in a hip area of town that makes the most amazing treats.

We split the lemon raspberry tart and the mini strawberry cake and washed it all down with iced coffee. Everything was amazing. I’m kind of grateful that I live clear across town from this place or I would visit way too much!

What is your favorite bakery treat? I have to say that I’m partial to fancy tarts or a big buttery croissant!

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
