Hi and happy Monday! I hope that everyone had a great weekend. After teaching the “Yoga in the Meadow” event on Saturday, I spent the rest of the afternoon around the house cleaning, running and walking Sullie before getting ready for a wedding.
The wedding was held at Morning Glory Farm in Monroe, NC. It was about a 45 minute drive from Charlotte and the drive there definitely reminded me of my South Georgia roots! It’s crazy that just 30 miles outside of Charlotte there is an abundance of farm land, rolling hills and green pastures. I knew the couple getting married through the gym. The groom has been one of our coaches since I started working at Metro two and a half years ago.

The wedding was held outdoors overlooking a pond at 6 p.m. Saturday was the summer solstice so it was the longest day of the year. The sun was high and bright for the wedding but we were shaded by trees and there was a slight breeze. They couldn’t have asked for better conditions. The ceremony was short but extremely heartfelt and personal.

I loved the feel of the reception. It was very relaxed but the details were great. Beer, water and tea served in mason jars.

Mismatched dinnerware.

The bride made these centerpieces herself!

And a beautiful carrot cake! Word on the street is that it was paleo!

The dinner was so delicious. They used Roots Farm Catering. This local company is focused on working with local farmers to provide the freshest food possible. Our dinner spread included red beans and rice, cucumber salad, roasted sweet potatoes and tacos. For the tacos there was shrimp, chorizo and shredded beef along with a variety of cheeses, salsas and guacamole. It was pretty much the best wedding food ever!

With gym girlfriends! 🙂

On Sunday I decided to take it down a notch and spent the afternoon hanging out by a friend’s pool with a book. I needed some major relaxation time!

How handsome was my company? This is her 14 year old golden retriever, Rocket. He was still full of spunk and such a sweet boy!
What’s the best or most non-traditional/creative wedding food you’ve had?

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

I recently traveled to Big Bear Lake, California for the inaugural Big Bear Peaks + Pines three-day stage race hosted by TransRockies Running. This was my third TransRockies event in 12 months (see also Colorado + Moab) and I’m here to tell you that they can do no wrong when it comes to race organization [...]

Happy weekend! Another week in the books! I got three runs in (6.5 miles, 5.5 miles, 5.5 miles) and I have a trail run planned for tomorrow. Total weekly mileage will end up around 30-35 miles depending on if I go for 13 or 17 tomorrow! I’m 16 weeks out from the Golden Ultra so [...]

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
