My alarm went off this morning at 4:55 a.m. and I was woken from a very deep, restful sleep that I haven’t been experiencing too often lately. All I wanted to do was sink back into that deep sleep but I had a client to train and a class to teach so I got my feet on the floor and started moving…slowly. Usually after I’m up for about 5 minutes, I’m up but this morning was different. I arrived at the gym feeling like I could lie down in the middle of the floor and fall asleep. I trained my 5:30 a.m. client and then headed over to Y2 to teach my 6:30 a.m. hot vinyasa class still feeling like I was in a fog.

I walked into the studio and and into a room full of students who chose to also get up early and start the day on their mat. Their energy was infectious. Over the last week, I have been messaging a lot to my students about living with intention. It’s such a yoga thing to say, “set an intention for your practice today” but this needs to be a serious life practice, not just yoga class practice. I encouraged them to wake up every morning and set their intention for the day. How do you want to feel? What do you want to accomplish? Who do you want to be a part of that journey with you? What direction are you heading?

So I set my intention this morning to wake up and get present, to honor my commitments and to be a kind and loving friend. (And also to be kind to myself with a nap later today! :)) My take on the day had totally shifted by the time I walked out of the studio. I am so grateful for the mindfulness that yoga has taught me and it’s still something that I have to practice every day!

This song at the end of class put me in the best mood. I highly encourage a listen if you’re in need of a little grounding this morning.

I could listen to this song every day for the rest of my life. So beautiful.

The rain is pouring down
Like all the souls you sent here
Coming to this earth
To find healing

Mother earth takes in the rain
Like your heart takes my voice
Let us free eachother
With our prayers, with our voice

And I’m coming home
And I’m coming

Ong namo guru dev namo
Ong namo guru dev namo

Oh, my beloved
Kindness of the heart
Breath of life
I bow to you

Divine teacher
Beloved friend
I bow to you
Again and again

Lotus sitting on the water
Beyond time and space
This is your way
This is your grace

Ong namo guru dev namo
Ong namo guru dev namo

Set your intentions and have an amazing day! Much love and energy to all of you!

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
