A Sunday Shower

On Sunday I co-hosted a baby shower for a dear friend of mine. She is expecting a baby boy in September. We had a little issue with nailing down a shower date and time that worked for all of the hostesses and we ended up going with a bit of a non-traditional time but it worked out really nicely. The shower was from 4-6 p.m. which turned out to be perfect because it gave everyone their whole day to do their normal Sunday thing and then early evening cocktails and appetizers. It made for a pretty festive shower.

We kept the shower very simple but I think it turned out so elegantly. There was no “theme” and we didn’t play any games (at the mom-to-be’s request.) We kept the decor to big blue hydrangeas and some scattered blue rubber duckies. The first hour was spent mingling, eating and drinking and the second hour opening gifts and eating cake. It was so lovely and relaxed.

I must share the details with you.

My mom bought me this Max Studio dress for my birthday and I thought the shower was the perfect occasion to wear it. I added a pop of color with Erin McDermott’s Color Block Necklace. Sullie was sad she didn’t get to go to the shower with me but did pose for the pic to show off her sad face.

I made peach puree in the VitaMix using my farmers market peaches for bellinis. They were a huge hit!

Here’s the food table along with a portrait of my stunningly beautiful friend. The food was light, delicious, creative and seasonal. It was done by a yoga studio owner here in town that does a little bit of catering on the side. We were so lucky to have her do the food for the shower!

Cashew and kalamata cheese grilled eggplant rolls with pesto.

Herbed puff pastry wrapped asparagus.

Summer squash and zucchini skewers with prosciutto and a mint-lime drizzle. These were phenomenal!

Summer vegetable bruschetta served with tortilla chips and crostini.

Endive stuffed with goat cheese, orange and walnuts.

The cake was from Edible Art and I was so pleased with how it turned out. I sent them a few graphics of pregnant yogis and told them about the blue hydrangeas so they incorporated both. I love this cake!!!!!!

And my friend’s only request for the shower was that there be cake pops so I ordered some from Edible Art that complimented the cake design. We used them as favors.

It was such a nice evening of celebrating a very exciting time in my sweet friend’s life. It was such an honor to host the shower for her.

Baby showers…are you a master planner/themes/games/etc or keep it simple type?

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
