Workouts have taken a back seat since work has ramped up so I’ve relied on two of the fastest and easiest ways to get workouts in, CrossFit and running. I love that I can get both done in under 30 minutes and feel like I got a good workout in. I tell people this all the time but you do not have to work out for hours per day to be fit. Quality over quantity, always! Of course I love it when I have time to fit in 90 minutes of yoga and take my time in the gym but it just doesn’t always happen that way!

CrossFit

15 minute AMRAP

200 meter run
15 back squats
10 box jump overs

This is the only CrossFit WOD that I did this week and I couldn’t have programmed a WOD I loved more myself. The mix of running, squats and box jumps was amazing and knowing that it was only  a 15 minute AMRAP made me really push myself with no rest. I went with the competition weight of 85# on the squats which was just the push I needed in this workout and then used a 20 inch box for the jump overs. Instead of jumping all the way over, I jumped on, turned around up top and stepped off the opposite side. I have this whole “risk versus reward” philosophy that keeps me from going to crazy on box jumps. I know that I am not the most coordinated person ever and I would like to preserve the appearance of my shins and my teeth!

I got 5 rounds done in 15 minutes! And my legs were crazy sore for the next two days from the squats.

REST

Saturday

6.3 mile run

When I’m in Georgia visiting my grandmother my go-to workout is usually running unless I do a day pass at a local gym. I spend so much time in the gym in general that I usually default to running. Coming off a rest day on Friday, I was in the mood to do a longer run on Saturday morning. It poured down rain all morning but there was a 2 hour window with no storms so I headed out for a run. The air was SO heavy and humid but it felt really good to sweat and zone out. I decided that I’d run for an hour and ended up covering 6.3 miles. Legs and body felt great after. It’s been nice to get back to running this distance consistently.

Sunday

Run or REST

I’m not heading back to Charlotte until later this afternoon but I have a lot of work to do today so I’m not sure that I’ll fit a workout in. If I do it will be a 3 mile run.

Are you a “hours logged” or “quality over quantity” kind of exerciser?

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
