The weekend was a whirlwind. It flew by at record pace but it was full of good things and fun times.

8.25facial

(Whoa. Yes, that’s a lot of me up close and personal for the first photo of the post!) I trained four clients, taught a yoga class, went into the Charlotte Observer office for a couple of hours and worked on Metro stuff and my blog on Friday. I took a little break from all that for some pampering. First, I took a rest day. Second, I went into Carolina Facial Plastics to see Dede for a facial/peel. This is a pic from post peel. No makeup except for mascara (and it seems the Latisse has finally kicked in!)

We are eight months into my treatment plan right now and I think this is the best my skin has looked in over 10 years. We are meeting all of my goals in regards to my skincare…protection, prevention and no hormonal birth control! YES! I’ll do another post soon with a breakdown on all the products I’m using. It’s a simple, manageable routine.

8.25nails

The pampering continued with a manicure after I finally finished my last client of the week at 6:30 p.m. I don’t usually choose pink nail polish colors but I’ve been all about it lately. Just makes you feel girly! 🙂

8.25pizza

I decided to stay in on Friday night since I had my race and CrossFit event on Saturday. I ordered an Italian sausage, mushroom and artichoke pizza from Luisa’s Brick Oven and then topped it with a little bit of goat cheese at home. I ate half of this pizza while watching a movie on the couch.

8.25tv

I rented the movie Palo Alto with James Franco. Movie was weird and artsy but James Franco is enjoyable to look at so it was a win.

8.25coffee

The race started at 7:30 a.m. so I had an early wakeup call on Saturday. I got up at 6 a.m., showered (always helps warm me up pre-race), ate a banana with almond butter and hit the road. Parking and logistics were easy. After the race I stopped by Starbucks for a venti iced coffee to put some pep in my step before the Metro Throwdown.

8.25wod

I loved our Throwdown workout! I was scheduled for the 10:45 a.m. heat and was excited to give it a try. I was also really nervous because it is slightly terrifying to workout and give it your all with a bunch of people watching you! I did the workout as prescribed and finished 198 reps. Notable achievements include 30 handstand push ups in the first minute and I strung together 15 kipping pull ups in a row during the max effort 2 minutes of pull ups. That’s a personal best for me.

8.25jen

I was more than ready for a post-5K and post-WOD beer!

8.25sandwich

We had someone grilling burgers and chicken sandwiches so I had a chicken sandwich with peppers, onions, sauerkraut and cheese.

8.25weekend

It felt SO GOOD to go home, shower and get dressed up after spending the day a sweaty mess. I went out for dinner with a group of friends on Saturday night. No food pics to share but it was a great evening and I don’t think I’ve laughed so much in weeks.

8.25sul

I Ubered home around 11:30 (I am OBSESSED with Uber!) and spent some time cuddling with this one before bed.

8.25matt

Sunday was a little more low-key. I taught yoga, went to the grocery store, worked on a video and story for Run Charlotte Run about using a lacrosse ball for hip and glute mobility and then attended an event. I was invited to cover a dinner with a local high school cross country team where Matt Elliott was the speaker. Matt is a local kindergarten teacher and runner whose mile PR is 3:54. He is about to embark on a journey to train for the 2016 Olympic team. More on that in another post!

8.25sullie

Wrapped up the weekend walking my girl and catching up with my family.

What’s your favorite way to pamper yourself? Facial? Mani/pedi? Massage?

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

Breakfast + What I Bought at Trader Joe’s

I am such a creature of habit when it comes to breakfast. 95% of the time I’m craving a breakfast that is on the sweet side. That mostly alternates between smoothies or yogurt bowls with overnight oats, chia pudding or oatmeal occasionally thrown in there. On the rare occasion I go savory – it’s scrambled [...]

Life Lately: Summer So Far

Life Lately: Summer So Far

I want to bottle up this summer and make it last forever (well, maybe minus the wildly hot and humid weather that makes running a big thumbs down). I mentioned this in my last post…but I am really enjoying the slower pace and the days that feel like they have more space. While I’m trying [...]

So Many Dinner Ideas

So Many Dinner Ideas

Happy Friday! I hope this post finds you well and enjoying the summer. We are in the dog days of it over here in Charlotte – the heat and humidity is off the charts – but it’s something I’ll embrace because I deeply appreciate the massive slow down that summer has brought. A lot of [...]

Life Lately: 8 Years Old, A New Piercing, Trail Training and More

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. It’s a very rainy one here in Charlotte and while I am a little bummed not to be spending the weekend in Florida with the fam or by the pool at our swim club (just opened for the season!), I’m also welcoming a slower pace and time at home. It’s been [...]
